    Be careful of the brand when you use water bowls--I have used a few brands that I had to remove, because the snakes were getting scrapes along their neck/back. Nothing serious, just took the color off their scales, but it doesn't shed out quickly, if at all.
    The problem is they would use the entrance hole to go in, and then come back out wherever they pleased. lol

    Precisely. :P But to answer the question, I know she "likes" it by her behavior... she was very agitated and snappy for the days it wasn't there, and refused food that week. We put the half-log back in, and - voila - she settled down and went back to feeding aggressively. She devoured four adult mice yesterday (she's a mouser only), so clearly the half-log doesn't offend her! Plus, she spends about an equal amount of time in each hide (usually the log at night & the cave during the day), which means she feels secure in both. Even snakes can have an opinion, and are capable of communicating non-verbally. ;)
