Re: Do You Believe?
Yeah, have to agree with the eat what you kill opinion, especially in places where there isn't a very large population of whatever it is that someone may be hunting. So hunting just to have something to stuff or hang on the wall is a little pointless when you're being a possible detriment to a small population.
I grew up with both my parents deer hunting and I did so myself for 4 years, everything we shot was food. Heh, at one point my dad actually picked up a massive buck that has been hit on the side of the road just minutes earlier and brought that home, some of the best venison I've had, roadkill or not.

Re: Do You Believe?
For those who think hunting is boring or cruel should try facing off with a charging wild boar. Hunting wild boar without the benefit of dogs should be considered an extreme sport. If they detect you first they will charge without warning. All you hear is some leaves rustle, maybe a grunt or two and then they are on you. The reaction is usually :O Alot of times you don't have time to get your gun up. The best you can hope for is to jump or climb out of the way and hope they don't turn around. Then dig in to your backpack and get the clean pants out...

Re: Do You Believe?
Hunting isn't really my thing although I do understand the need for it. I have a lot more respect for people that hunt with a bow and arrow than those that use guns.

Re: Do You Believe?
Yep, I believe in hunting but only to eat what you kill.
Bow hunting = the most boring experince ever ( for me atleast). you just sit in a tree and wait all day...man what a sport , I think the only other sport tat requires that much endurance is bowling lol

Re: Do You Believe?
well when it comes to deer, its about fat does, not about the one with the biggest antlers I can shoot, big bucks dont taste as good :(

Re: Do You Believe?
True, the fatty does do have a lot less gamey taste compared to the bucks.
And for me, I'd probably still hunt today if I still lived in Michigan where the deer are big and taste better than these ones down south, and also if I would have ever hunted with a gun instead of a bow, because yes, bow hunting is booooring when you have to be so quiet for so many hours and can't move.
Although people that have blinds rather than use a tree climber like I did can usually get away with moving around a bit so you aren't stuck sitting there like a statue.

I have difficulty knowing that a wild animal has to struggle EVERYDAY just to live. I realize it's part of nature, but my point is that wild animals struggle day in and day out for every aspect of their existance - What gives me the right to sneak up on them and shoot them for fun?
I have more respect for people who eat what they kill, but personally - hunting is just not for me.
Sorry, but this just really made me laugh. Not to sound preachy as I am a vegetarian but don't you realize that the meat you put on your plate has to struggle every day to survive? Unless you live on a nice open, sun-filled, happy go lucky farm or get your meat from such a place, the meat on your plate suffers a LOT more than some deer in the woods. Just saying...
Personally I think hunting has a purpose, as long as you eat everything you kill. I can't stand trophy hunters. Even if you do eat what you kill, I have a real problem putting a deer's head on your wall. For me, it is kind of disrespectful to the dead.
One day I'm probably going to suck it up and hunt/fish for my ferrets, cats, and dog since I will eventually put everyone on a raw/whole prey diet (ferrets are already on a raw diet) so variety is of great importance. I plan on breeding my own mice, rats, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, and chickens for my carnivorous pets, but wild game might be good for them. Not sure I could kill a wild animal, but we shall see. I already fish for them sometimes.

I enjoy hunting (partially for the hunting, and partially for just being out there with my dad hiking in the woods)and I hunt deer. Here in california we can only shoot bucks with at least forked antlers so its hard to get anything. I see nothing wrong with hunting as long as you strive to make clean shots and eat what you kill.
