My daughter was taught from a young age about guns. She knows what they can do, she also knows the rules we have with guns, and she knows we have them in our house. We hunt, and she understands that as well. She knows what to do should she ever come across one here or where ever. Personally I believe them being educated about them is much better off. Rather than the kid who has never seen one, knows nothing about them, and is curious. Boom, there's your accident. All you people that don't want guns in your house, go right ahead. I'll keep mine.

Oh, and the Happy Meal is WAY worse.

I think I love you doc! I preach to both my kids what to do if they ever see a gun. My six year old knows,
    1. Don't go near it or let a friend go near it. 2. Go get an adult NOW! 3. Don't go near it again!

Here is where civilians carrying firearms around town can get dicey. Law enforcement are trained in progression of force. Firing a weapon being the last possible step. Joe blow down the street see's a guy running off with his neighbors tv and shoots him in the back. Joe blow is going to jail.

On my way home I recalled a few more incidents that only support my decision to carry a gun (if I had a permit to do so... I don't carry a gun since I don't have that permit)... one of my neighbors has been shot in a home invasion robbery. He even showed me his scars. When I was growing up a neighbor's house was shot up (drug deal gone bad?) while my sister and I were trying to sleep in our beds on the same side of the house that incident occurred. One day I came home from school to my babysitter's house only to find out a man down the street had been murdered. I saw the crowd of people, and was then told to go inside and stay inside by my babysitter.

Bad things happen all the time. Carrying a gun doesn't guarantee you'll be safe and never be harmed, but it does help level out the playing field. When the criminals know civilians are carrying, they will think twice about their actions, because they know there's a chance they won't come out of it. However carrying a gun also involves a certain amount of responsibility. The person carrying should be trained and knowledgeable about their weapon. They should be well trained enough that the chance of someone taking their gun to use it against them is unlikely at best. This also goes for guns kept in the house: the individual owning it should be trained to use it, and competent and confident enough to use it. The gun should also be stored properly to prevent accidental discharge, and if there are children in the house, the gun needs to be kept where the children cannot find it and play with it AND the children need to be taught proper gun safety and handling.

Guns are a tool. Cars kill people too, and can be used as a weapon. I'm honestly far more concerned about being injured or killed in a car accident than I am of being mugged, raped, or murdered (especially with the way people in this city drive!). That concern doesn't stop me from driving, but it also doesn't mean I drive unprepared. In order to lessen my chance of being involved in an accident, I've learned to be ever observant of those drivers around me, and anticipate them messing up. That's saved me from an accident more times than I could count. If I were permitted to carry a gun, doing so would be preparation for that very small chance I would become a victim of a crime.

You misunderstood. If you see a guy running down the road with your t.v. Why would you draw your gun? I'm not talking about John Wayne stuff here. I'm saying if I feel threatened enough to draw my firearm I intend to pull the trigger. I would never draw a weapon to scare someone.

Yeah there are some bad apples out there. In my cpl class we covered all sorts of topics. Main point was if you are not in danger let the bad guy go. Big difference.
