Re: Where do you place your thermostat probe?
Directly on the heat tape.
Re: Where do you place your thermostat probe?
Where ever you put the probe, be sure it is secure. If its not you can cook your snake.
Use a temp gun and check the floor of the enclosure where the heat source is.
Re: Where do you place your thermostat probe?
We have one digital thermo/hygrometer attached in the center of the aquarium to monitor the ambient air, and we have one thermometer with a probe just under the substrate thats under the hide on the hot side of the tank, to measure that temp.
Re: Where do you place your thermostat probe?
so i don't make a new thread, i need advice on my set up.
I already had my zoomed uth on the tank before I realized i needed to put my tstat probe directly on it. I really don't want the probe in the tank, so I used alum/taped it to the bottom of the uth. The problem I'm having is that it reads about 4-5 degrees lower on the bottom of the uth that it does inside directly on the glass. Do I just test the temp of the repticarpet over the uth inside the tank with my IR, gun and adjust the thermostat so read 90-92 on to of the repticarpet?

Try and see if you can get the probe in between the glass and the UTH. You may have to peel back a bit of the UTH to do this.
That will be a much more accurate reading. Under the UTH may not be where (I think with Zoomed) the heat emitted.

I don't think so either. The back of it is really cool compared to the sticky side. I'll try and peel it back carefully to get it in there. I've heard they are hard to peel off, and easily damaged.
Thanks jess

Hi,
Actually adjust it first of all to the glass beneath the repti-carpet but otherwise you are bang on. I always plan for the worst and asume the snake will burrow at some point. Trying to spot and eliminate possible problems before the snake thinks of them makes things a lot safer in the long run. :)
It doesn't matter what value the thermostat is actually set to as long as it is set to keep the temps spot on in the animals environment. :gj:
So aim to get it no higher than 95 under the carpet and remember when you add hides they trap a little heat so that is where to take the above carpet readings.
Personally I find newspaper easier to clean though.
