Feeding live mice and rats is dangerous... Wives tale?

my snakes been bit not bad it was when she was constricting a mouse when she was younger didnt do any damage though

Forgive me if I already posted in this thread, but I like live feeding. After watching my adult bp take down a small rat, I'd give him those again if that was what I had, but I have decided to give him several mice instead, partly because it seems far less likely that he'd sustain an injury.

The main reason for that decision is because if he chooses not to eat for several weeks, the mice won't get too big for him to eat. But, he does have a much easier time killing the mice.

ive had no problems feeding live mice to my ball, no scratches bites, injures, etc. i HAVE seen a mouse chew on the tail of a baby ball at a pet store, after alerting a worker there i asked if they didnt know any better than to leave a rodent with a snake and the answer i got was "the guy who feeds them went to lunch....." shocking and TRUE story and one more reason to buy from a breeder and not a pet store. hope this helps

I just fed my Boa a live rat and I have been feeding live as long as I have been snake keeping. Almost ten years. I dunno I think it keeps it real for the snake. Not saying frozen or thawed isn't good. Just my pref. Please don't attack me for saying that. I HAVE NO PROBLEMS with f/t.

It's dangerous when they are left unsupervised.... otherwise, I feed mostly live to all of my bps! :)

The truth is, a frozen/thawed rodent never bit a snake ever.
That said, I feed live, supervised. Never really had any issues. The few times I've had a snake get bitten, it's not even been a wound. I'm pretty sure a large rat could do damage though. I just hate the thawing out of 40+ rodents for the snakes to suddenly decide no one is hungry. Then I have 40 thawed rodents.
