Notice how it's pretty dark in there? I know it looks blurred, but it's because the tub is blurred! Plus, light can get in the room but not on the tub so the sun will not ever play a part in the temperature of my RUB.

Its not the issue of light and dark, yes dark is good, but more of how wide open the front is. That is the same type of log hide I was using, lots of people have used them, if you can't get a similar hide as your hot side in there then get some fake plants and drape them so they cover some of the front. But keep an eye on the snake and if you see it's only using the hot hide you will need to make a change.

I'm pleased that I've at LEAST solved one of the most frustrating puzzles of my life! Getting those temperatures right! I wonder what I could use in place of the log, then. Another exo-terra hide ( the one I have is the smallest variant! ) would absolutely not fit in there. That plastic ready meal box I cut out is even BIGGER than the exo terra hide, so that also will not fit.

Like I said use you can use it for now, you never know it may be ok. Just get some fake leaves and drape them over the front. But just pay attention to its behavior and if you have to switch it out with something.

These style hides is all I use now. Idk if they sell something similar in the UK or not.

Well, I can always get another one for when my snake grows out of his 5L and requires the 9L RUB I already have. That will definitely fit. I cannot find those particular hides but I have seen them before in YouTube videos and I tried to locate some with no luck. Well hopefully the arched log is okay, my breeder has seen the arched log in pictures I've sent him and he said my setup looks spot on.

What are the odds the breeder has ever used them though? I'm just telling you from my experience and others of using them, I'm not saying they won't work I'm just saying be prepared if they don't.

Reason your probably not finding them is bc they are reptile basics hides which are in the USA. Here is a link to ones very similar to what I have. If you end up getting them get 2 so you have the same for each side. Also if you buy them pay attention to the measurements listed on the site so you know the snake will fit inside them and so you know they will fit in your tub.

I took no chances and got two extra small and two small ones. If he fits in the extra small ones, and gets a little bigger, I could simply replace the extra small with a small. In the breeder's videos I do recall seeing hides like that. Thank you!

Oh and for the last 3-4 hours I've kept the probe in the cave on the plastic and it's gotten no hotter than 93F. I'll leave it there overnight. : )

I would link the breeder's YT channel but uhh... I don't want to risk people finding out what kind of BP I'm getting, I want to show him off when I get him! Haha.
