Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
I have only one BP and she lives in a tank. As I posted in a previous thread, I've not had any temp or humidity issues for a variety of reasons.

However, I'm one of those people who loves to build things, and I do see myself getting 1-2 more snakes in the future. So I plan on building a wooden frame that will house 3-4 40 gal tanks in a stack. I have already started working on plans for this, even though I currently live in an ity-bitty apartment and will not have the space for such a project for a long time. I feel that this will be the convenience of a rack system combined with the beauty of a tank, all the while providing security and happiness for the ones that really matter - the animals.

Honestly, I think that as long as the snake is happy and comfortable, the tank/tub issue is a personal one. If you've got bunches of snakes, tubs are easily the winner but if you've just got the one, then I can't really see the "added effort" of a tank being all that big of a deal. Just my two cents!

Maybe when it grows I'll get a tub.

I started out with tanks and quickly became fed up with the constant maintenance. My house is dry during the winter and it was a nightmare keeping the humidity up. now that I have a tub system, which is much more cost effective and easy, I am much happier. I also think my snakes feel more secure. If you are thinking about switching to tubs, my advice is to shell out the money and get a helix or herstat, some heat tape and you will not regret it.

Those of you with tubs but no racks. How do you keep your snakes from getting out. Do you use straps? I'm sure that my ball could pop the top on those plastic tubs.

If you have more than one tub...do you put the tub right on the heat tape? Then stack another on top, more heat tape, then tub, etc?

I understand the rack system (I'm getting one this summer) with tubs just not tubs without the rack...

On my tubs, and they're for corn snakes mind you, I use two mini bungee cords stretched from back to front spaced evenly with the end latches. When the hooks are placed properly (i.e. under the lip of the lid and the edge of the tub), there is NO lifting that lid. :) I'll try to get some pix soon.

I'm a tub man as well. Just works out better having to house multi snakes. Tanks just seem to dry the animals out too bad unless you really stay on them. :)

Sweet! I've got to try that.
How do you heat it? UTH?

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
Yep. All my corn tubs have a UTH taped under one side with aluminum tape. The larger tubs (@26"x15"x10") have 10-20 gallon sized pads and the smaller tub has a 1-5 gallon size. All are controlled by t-stat of course. :) Glad you like the idea...it was a stroke of brilliance while shopping at Lowes. :D
