Hey, if you want it,a nd you are happy with what you got, and the seller is happy with what he got for it, then great.
If I sold someone a normal ball python for $3000 then who would be wrong? The new owner would be happy with the snake, the old owner(me) would be happy with her money. Then does it really matter that he could have waited and gotten one cheaper? Or gotten one similar for less? What does it matter to you? You didn't pay the $3000. And if the guy is robbed on the walk up to my door, doesn't that mean I am at fault? No, the robber is at fault.
Adam can buy whatever he wants, for however much he feels he wants to spend.
Some people buy snakes, some people buy PS3s, Adam buys both!
I don't own ANY game system, nor do I have any desire to own one. Total mystery to me. And IF I had kids of my own, they probaly wouldn't get it at christmas either. They would maybe get it later on when it was more reasonable to get.. but I'm lazy, and I think that having to wait for things you want is good for you, especially when it means less effort on my part.. lol.
Getting someone you love something they really really wanted for a gift(at any time of year) is a wonderful gift to yourself! Getting to see the pleasure that you caused them is worth a lot more than a few dollars, or a few hours standing in line.

PS3 is not my thing but is my son's who will just have to wait.
It's not the spending the 500-600 bucks on one to me it would be the hassle you go thru at this point in time to buy one.

For the price it is a pretty good deal since it is also a HD DVD player and HD DVD players alone cost $$.
Told my son he can get one for his B-day In May.

I agree w/ Adam it's all in what ever your bag is. Would I stand in line for a PS3? No, but would and will I stand in line for say tickets to the frozen 4 when it is played here in a few years and spend big $$ for decent tickets? Oh Hell Yeah !

and yet you wouldn't catch me standing in line for anything. not even the last loafs of bread in russia.

i'm not a line stander... would i pay extra for someone to have stood in line for that last loaf of bread? heck ya!

i'm a consumer... and i am willing to pay what i have to for those who do the grunt work. and to me, standing in line in the cooooooooooold is grunt work!

oh and adam did i mention that we are coming *insert state and town here* for christmas and thought we'd stop by on the 25th for breakfast and a few games? no?

Technically, it's not an HD DVD player it is a Blue Ray. They are two different (and competing) formats.

And to my understanding play DVD's in the same quality as HD on HD tv's at least that is what all my HD guru friends tell me.
When I buy one it will be for my son who will be playing his darn Socom and NFL, NHL and such on there.

And Adam I am 100% in agreement w/ you about if you have it and want to spend it on you child then friggin do it. I grew up not being able to get some of the things I always wanted and now darn it I can afford it and my son would like it then darn it I am gonna get it for him and no my son is far from being spoiled.
I got mad hell from some of my family last year because I spent over 4g's on my son. And this year again I will spend to take my son to Breckenridge, Col to ski and snowboard and I don't even ski :)
I am with you it's all about that smile you see.

And if the motivation for all those "line standers" is to turn around and resell it on Ebay for a quick profit...the mystery merely increases as to why people would spend thousands of dollars for something they can have at a fraction of the price....if they just wait a few weeks.

I guess for some...the status of having one of the first new systems to hit store shelves is worth that much time and money. Doesn't mean I understand it though. ;)

Haleloo-ya sista! I agree with your post 1000% (been watchin' the daytime talk shows too much...) ;)

I guess I figure it differently. I grew up RARELY getting what I wanted for christmas, mostly clothes with a few toys tossed in. My parents tried but we didn't have a lot.
I appreciated what I had more because I didn't have much of it.
Pleasing my children will be very important I'm sure but there are going to be things they just won't get no matter what, children are way too material these days and luckily my husband agrees.

I to have limits as to what I will give my son ie his friends parents just bought his friend a new 24k car and soon as my son asked I told him no way, he has a job and I told him to save and I would then match his savings.

I use a different approach, I give my son nice things and try to show him variety in life and then tell him when he is on his own to have these things and to do these things he needs to work hard, get a education or trade etc and to always remember to give to others that don't. So far he is a good kid who seems to always think about others before himself and knows in life you can't always get what you want, but if you try, you get what you need ( sorry to the Stones for that quote :)

we are not into a material christmas at all. we buy what we need all year long... why struggle to figure out what new thing they have to have and then they toss it aside within a few weeks. so... this is what we do for christmas. we buy each other a gift of ducks, or geese, or a llama and help other families make a huge change in their lives... it really makes me feel all happy inside knowing our gift changed the course of people in need :sunny:

of course the kids do get a gift each... and a sock full of fun - but otherwise we don't exchange gifts with each other... ;)

I'll be honest, I don't know which one actually has a higher picture quality. They are two different formats, both are for HD tv's, and people who pick the losing format will probably get burned, just like the whole VHS/Beta thing back in the early 80's.
