Re: Esmeralda - Bayonnaise Leachie
Ezzy is doing great. She continues to try to kill me when I go in the tank, but I use the welders gloves and if need be just remove the wood or perch she's on. Once picked up or removed from the tank, she calms right down.
However, if you are planning on getting a Leachie, remember, their motto is, "I MUST PROTECT THIS HOUSE!"
"Dad, leave me alone, I am shy and I WANT TO EAT MY DINNER"

Two videos of Ezzy.

Eating her dinner. That is NOT slow motion.

Haven't posted about Ezzy in a long time. She's doing great and still wants to kill me when I go in her tank, but is fine once out. She loves to chirp and talk, usually discontent, but she's worth the trouble :). Everyone loves her unique look and she's easy peasy to feed to boot. She's been hanging around 200G +/- 5G for a while now.
I am giving her leapin' leachies food, which Ferry loves, but she won't touch it unless I put pangea in. I prefer the stuff formulated for her, but she's stubborn. At least she's getting 50-60% of the good stuff mixed in.
For others with Rhacodactylus, it's worth looking at the food Steve makes. I bought both Ferry and Ezzy from him and he really knows his stuff.

Looks so cute dave, them markings really are cool, love how camouflaged she is, you'd struggle to find them in the wild

I'd be worried about Ezzy if she didn't try to, "Defend This House," every time I went to pick her up. It means she feels happy and safe in her enclosure and wants to protect it. The day she climbs on my hand like Ferry is the day I get concerned.

Yeah, Ferry too, perfect camouflage. Could you imagine with foliage too?
Interestingly enough, at least here in the states, it's not super easy, or cheap, to find them either. The females only produce a few eggs a couple times a year, if that, and can be very picky about a mate. I've heard of breeders trying 10 males before the female accepts the courting.
