Michael Vick's Possible Return to NFL
Ok, NFL Commissioner Roger Gidell is going to meet with Vick soon to determine if he has a future playing in the NFL.
If this happens I believe there will be a tiny amount of people that will not watch the NFL any longer but to me it won't make a difference or not.
I do think if I committed the things he did and spent time in confinement that I wouldn't be aloud to come back to the place of my work.
What about you?
Also I believe that if he is let back in the league that someone maybe even a few teams would take him as a player. They might feel some heat for a period of time but it would pass.
I'm also ready to see the Animal activist go after the NFL's Corporate Partners possibly picketing them. Some of these partners include Coca Cola, Campbell Soup, Pepsi, FedEx, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, United Way, etc.

Re: Michael Vick's Possible Return to NFL
Its hard for me to say that someone who has been in jail should never get a second chance. He did something real terrible and the judge saw that he spent time in jail for it that was appropriate. Vick did his time so in the law's eyes, everything is even.
Now would I pick him up if I was an owner? Hell no. Thats too much heat and who knows how well he's gonna perform if he gets back on stage. Its gonna take a desperate team to give Vick another chance in the NFL
-
Re: Michael Vick's Possible Return to NFL
I wouldn't pick him up if I was an owner.
I will still watch the NFL and his games to see what he does.
Like most say, everyone deserves a second chance.

Re: Michael Vick's Possible Return to NFL
The christian side of me says he should be forgiven if he asks it BUT the worldly side of me says he shouldn't be forgiven, he shouldn't be allowed to return and he should've rotted in jail. I have VERY strong views aganist people who fight dogs so I have to be very carefull not to let that distract me from making the right choice...

Re: Michael Vick's Possible Return to NFL
He'll play.
He'll play not because he did his time or repented or even feels guilty for what he did.
He'll play because he will make money for whomever picks him up.
And let's face it, the NFL is NOT about sportsmanship or setting good examples for our youths, it's about the allmighty dollar.
If it wasn't, there wouldn't even be a conversation about him coming back.

Agreed! It's always about the money. I find his apologies to be hollow.

^ But that goes for all big entertainment organizations.
NFL, NBA, MLB, FIFA, WWE, UFC, NHL, PGA, etc.

Which is a rather sad statement about those who watch.
America has very poor standards for heroes.

Re: Michael Vick's Possible Return to NFL
I'm inclined to give him a 2nd chance. Every single one of us had made mistakes, granted most aren't as agregious as dog fighting. But he has served his time and I think he should be given the opportunity to play again.
He could also really use his fame and profile to become the face of anti animal cruelty and fighting, if he's really serious about believing now that what he did was wrong.
-
Re: Michael Vick's Possible Return to NFL
people who have done worse were let back in, so the precedent has already been set. might as well let him back in and see if any owner is crazy enough to take him. I imagine whoever does will have to deal with those crazed wackjobs at PETA doing their protest thing.

Re: Michael Vick's Possible Return to NFL
Since this is football themed, I've moved this to Jerhart's World of Football! :D
As to how I personally feel about Vick returning to the NFL as a die hard Atlanta Falcons fan who felt very betrayed by Vick - I don't like it.
However, the Commissioner is going to have a hard time defending NOT allowing him to play when you look at the criminal records of SOME of the players currently playing, and Vick could conceivably sue on those grounds.
I forget who I was listening to on a sports show one day - I was really only half listening, and I don't really know many players outside of the Falcons, but there's one player who killed a young mother in a DUI accident who's an active player. To me, that's a pretty heinous crime as well.

Re: Michael Vick's Possible Return to NFL
They should make him a water boy for a few years making minimum wage.

Re: Michael Vick's Possible Return to NFL
Hes a good player, I believe he will be back. Like the other person said, hes even with the law. Yes he did wrong, he served his time. Which ever team he goes to will be put into the spot light which can be a great thing if played right. Ticket sales can go up, merchandise sales can go up.

Re: Michael Vick's Possible Return to NFL

It's football, it's not like he's running for public office.
-
Re: Michael Vick's Possible Return to NFL
I think he should be allowed to play again the guy did his time and lost millions. I think he's an idiot but I love watching him play football.

Re: Michael Vick's Possible Return to NFL
As far as that goes, Vick was my favorite player, up until he got arrested for what he did. To me vick is trash as far as a person goes.
As far as an athlete? He is a great athlete.
As far as getting picked up? He won't have a huge contract like he had before because of him getting in trouble, he wont make the kind of money like he was making before.
As far as a QB, he honestly isn't that great at all. He is fast, and he can scramble, that only lasts in the NFL for so much time then injuries. After that he really has nothing.

I really don't get this statement. If you're a piece of garbage, criminal, animal abuser why does it matter what your profession is?
This is all I need to know about Vick:
"Vick pleaded guilty after his three co-defendants had already done so. They told of how Vick participated in the killing of dogs that didn’t perform well in test fights by shooting, hanging, drowning or slamming them to the ground."

Re: Michael Vick's Possible Return to NFL
Alright now that he has been partially reinstated the guessing game begins. What team will sign him? These are the teams I came up with.
Redskins
Buccaneers
Panthers
49ers
Broncos

Well you can count the Panthers out....
Report: Panthers don't want Vick
Posted by Mike Florio on July 27, 2009 6:07 PM ET
We think that today's events should cause every team to revisit the question of whether they wish to pursue quarterback Mike Vick.
Even if said teams already have decided to take a pass, his conditional reinstatement significantly alters the aroma surrounding Vick, compelling prudent teams to conduct an objective assessment of whether he fits their short-term and/or long-term plans.
That said, plenty likely will come to the conclusion that they're not interested. But some that might have not been interested could end up becoming very interested, given the dramatic change in the circumstances.
One team that is expected to remain not interested is one of the teams that had to deal with him twice per year.
Per Darin Gantt of the Rock Hill Herald, the Carolina Panthers aren't interested.
"For the record, you can cross the Panthers off the list," Gantt writes. "There are those here who influence football decisions who -- even when Vick was still playing well -- thought that he was one of the most talented running backs in the league."
I agree with the 49ers.
I say:
49ers
Seahawks
Raiders
Vikings

Re: Michael Vick's Possible Return to NFL
Seahawks have Hasselback Vikings are gonna get Farve and the Raiders have Jamarcus Russel out of these three the raiders are the best fit. The redskins are a desperate team.

He wont be a starting QB this season.
Jim Mora, Seattle's HC, was Vick's coach in Atlanta and the two got along fine.
Favre is a one year deal. Minnesota 'Vick'ings :D
Al Davis doesn't make sensible moves with players ie. passing on Michael Crabtree in the draft.
And with all of these teams he will be a package player. He will only play QB on certain plays...such as any wildcat formation. And I also see him playing PR and KR on special teams. Again he will not be the starting QB for any team this year.

Re: Michael Vick's Possible Return to NFL
I don't agree I think he goes somewhere and he starts remember there are some terrible QB's in the league right now. How about the broncos what do you think about them?

It will be an interesting season. :)
I don't think he will be a Bronco because the new coach, Josh McDaniels, likes SMART QB's such as Brady and Cassel. That right there counts Vick out. :)
Kyle Orton did pretty well actually last year before getting injured. And I also feel it is getting too close to the season so bring in a new QB. Preseason begins in less than a month.
Another reason I dont think he will be starting as a teams QB is that he may not be allowed to play until week 7. You can't switch QB's on your team a 1/3 of the way thru the season without having issues on the field and in the locker room. Maybe any other position....but not at QB.
-
Re: Michael Vick's Possible Return to NFL
....also to add to the QB situation.
If I were an owner. I would not bring in Vick as my franchise QB.
For one, to say he would bring baggage is an understatement. By bringing him in as your QB, you are saying HE is the face of your franchise. You would have many upset fans.
Secondly, he wasn't even a great QB. If I remember correctly, when he left he had a passer rating of 56ish? I think, which was ranked 31st in the league in passing.
And lastly, the 2010 draft is LOADED with potential franchise QBs:
Sam Bradford
Jimmy Clausen
Tim Hiller
Jevan Snead
Dan LeFevour
Zac Robinson
Colt McCoy
and Tim Tebow even tho I dont think he will translate well as an NFL QB.
The cons just heavily outweigh the pros when it comes to bringing Vick in as your franchise QB.
THIS is why I dont think he will be starting as a QB this season. :)

Man the dolphins can use him. Pennington????? Sorry Bro if he concentrates on being more accurate he'd be a top ten QB.

I don't think he will be a phin as long as the Tuna is upstairs.
He has to concentrate REAL hard to be a top 10. ;)
[FACTS from si.com]
• Vick lost seven of his last nine starts in 2006, as the Falcons wasted a 5-2 start and missed the playoffs at 7-9 -- a tailspin that contributed to head coach Jim Mora losing his job after three seasons in Atlanta. Over his final two seasons, his fifth and sixth in the NFL, Vick's starting record was a mediocre 15-16. These days, that's roughly Matt Schaub territory, who, ironically, was Vick's onetime backup in Atlanta.
• In those last nine starts of 2006, Vick threw for at least 200 yards in a game just once, in a Week 15 home loss to Dallas. Vick passed for 127 yards or fewer in five of his last seven starts, and had efforts of 109 yards and 81 yards in his final two games as a Falcon that season. For the year, he completed just 52.6 percent, and averaged only 154.6 yards passing per game, the 28th highest total among the NFL's 32 starters. Yawn.
• You might recall that Vick broke single-season rushing records for a quarterback with 1,039 yards and an average carry of 8.4 in 2006. That helped Atlanta lead the league in rushing for a third straight year, and the Falcons established a single-season franchise rushing record with 2,939 yards. But Vick was also sacked a whopping 45 times that year, losing 303 yards, and fumbled nine times. In his last three seasons in Atlanta, Vick coughed up the ball an alarming 36 times, often in the process of running, and absorbed a whopping 124 sacks (41.3 per year). Elusive? Maybe not.
• Vick's passer rating was a pedestrian 75.7 in 2006 (20th in the league), a slight improvement over 2005 (73.1). He threw for 20 touchdowns and a career-high-tying 13 interceptions that final season, but his two-year totals for 2005-06 were a modest 35 touchdowns with 26 picks. Include 2004 and Vick threw 49 touchdowns and 38 interceptions over the course of his final three seasons, with passer ratings that never climbed higher than '04's 78.1.
*****I was wrong about the passer rating. 76, not 56...but still...not near top 10.

To bad I don't think they calculate rushing stats? Man I can't wait til football season

I would be very pumped. Atlanta doesn't have to worry about a QB for the next decade. You can't beat throwing a TD for your first NFL pass. :)

Michael Turner was invited to the Pro Bowl last year, Matt Ryan was voted as an alternate. Is being invited to the Pro Bowl not enough credit?

Honestly? I could not care less. I was excited when we signed him, because I remembered watching him play for VT and had commented to Karl at the time that he was a deadly combination of QB and RB.
Yes, he had moments of exciting play, but to me, he didn't perform consistently, and he was a disappointment as a Falcon for me, even before his criminal activities came to light. There was a lot of pressure put on him to be the "future" of the Falcons.
I'm more saddened that we didn't keep Alge Crumpler, actually. He was a consistent player who I don't think got recognized for how good he really was.

Re: Michael Vick's Possible Return to NFL
Vick wasn't a good QB, thats a fact. Falcons will do much better with Matt Ryan because he is a talented QB. A rushing QB can/will only take you so far. Saints put a stop to his rushing, look at the stats when they played.
-
Re: Michael Vick's Possible Return to NFL
Vick did the time for the crime.
He should be allowed to return to the NFL, But will anyone want him?
If so I do not think it will be as a Quarterback.
Lets face it , Vick is not an NFL QB.
He is a gifted player, great speed but not the sharpest knife in the drawer.
Yes a team will pick him up and he will play but not as a QB.
Maybe a kick return, punt return, slot receiver, ect.
Get the ball in his hands, just dont make him have to think.
Let him react to the play, get his yards.:soapbx:
-
Re: Michael Vick's Possible Return to NFL
not only that, but have you seen vick? looks like he's gained about 30 or 40% more muscle in prison. maybe he'll shed the pounds for a comeback, but he now looks more like a fullback or even a tight end now. personally i think he'd make a great slot receiver/tight end hybrid. you know... a play making slot guy that can run block like a TE.
-
Re: Michael Vick's Possible Return to NFL
I don't think he will be a good reciever or back for the simple fact he fumbles a lot. Recievers & Backs get hit a good bit, and constantly.
-
Re: Michael Vick's Possible Return to NFL
He's back per ESPN.
Vick signs 2 year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles.
This will be interesting. Eagles already have many offensive weapons.
