new hybrid forum
because my last post was "in bad taste", and some one recommend suggesting a new section for hybrids, lets see how many people think its a good idea.

Re: new hybrid forum
9 veiws and only 3 votes!!!
if you are taking the time to view it, at least vote on it.
-
Re: new hybrid forum
If you want everyone to vote, add a choice for indifference. I voted no, but I really don't care. I just don't want the constant temptation of strong disagreement turning me into a troll, especially on this site. :)
-
Re: new hybrid forum
I voted yes.
Jake-I love your sig....that drives me nuts!
-
Re: new hybrid forum
I'm sorry, I do think you handled the other thread poorly. Redirecting traffic to another forum can be costly to the forum you are posting on.
That being said, if the Admins/Moderators are kind enough to consider it, I'd love to see a Hybrid Forum.
I voted 'Yes'.
-
Re: new hybrid forum
Personally I have an intense dislike of hybrids. I've stated my reasons several times on these forums in the past and really don't wish to rehash it again. I don't like going to my regular forums and seeing hybrid threads which to my viewpoint, often seem to be placed there by someone trolling for an argument and in any case they seem to inevitably devolve into arguments anyway, which is why I voted 'YES' to having a separate hybrid forum. That way it'll give me a forum I can stay away from and if anyone were to start a hybrid thread on one of the other forums one of the mods could move it to the correct place.

Lucas, Please check your attitude at the door. If you want the owner of this site to listen to your request, and I do think it's a good request, I would urge you to tone down the sarcasm. I know that coming from me, that advise will make people fall down laughing all over the Herping world, but in this case, I think my advise is prudent.

Hey at least it's not like ks.com over here..........over there they would just delete everything said.....those guys are morons, at least over here we can complain and blah blah blah.
Oh btw, anyone reading this going to Birmingham tomorrow, I'm looking foward to checking your table out.

9 views and 3 votes could mean that the same three people refreshed the thread a couple times. It doesn't necessarily mean 9 different people have viewed the thread, nor did they they feel the necessity to vote. Just because a thread is out there doesn't mean you HAVE to participate in it. ;)

Yes, I will be in Birmingham tomorrow, but I won't be at the Dixie Reptile Show until later in the afternoon around 1ish. I think I'll be wearing my new green, St. Patrick's Day, Mike Green Capitals shirt, and I'll have my two kids with me as well. Feel free to stop me and say hi.

Please refrain from forum bashing. It's not something we allow or encourage here at BPNet.
To the OP, if there is enough expressed interest in a forum specific to hybrids then I can assure you the staff of this site will discuss opening one. I think we try very hard to meet the growing needs of this community. However, having said that, a little patience on your part when you share your ideas might go a long way. :)

I am undecided as yet. This is not something that I have given any thought to. I don't cast a vote without considering the issue first.

Lucas, I don't see how this thread is out of hand. Discussion is a good thing.

ha! if the discussion is not going "my way" then it must be "out of hand".

Hate to be a carmudgeon, but the issue on this forum is out of hand (?)... perhaps... and there are 3 hybrids threads being discusssed.
But you did start all 3 of them.

All the more reason to have a Hybrid Forum here at BPnet. Please take note that no one seems to debate Hots anywhere else here.

I belong to forums where if a person even mentions an interest in hybrids they are blacklisted from sales, trades, etc.
I also know breeders that will not trade with people that have traded with hybrid breeders 3 generations back. I think that is a fair stance if you feel strongly about a breeder, or something that is ethically compelling to you as a breeder.
We pay a lot of money for the snakes we buy, we invest a great deal of time in them, and we (hopefully) all strive to produce a top-notch *product*. Our snakes ARE our reputations. You cannot fault a person for have a belief system that is counter to your own.
Even a cursory search on hybrids on this site, would have lead you to myriad other threads that have all gone the same way.
I think this has all been quite civil.
Anyone thinking of getting into hybrids needs to grasp the consequences. Not just that, but to understand why people feel the way they do. Those opposed to hybrids, need to know who is working with them, so that they can make informed decisions regarding what snakes they purchase and from whom.
I am still ambivalent to them, but I have a very firm grasp of both camps, and should I ever chose to venture into those waters I will do it with a clear consciousness and a firm belief in what I am doing.
The same way I entered into morph breeding, same stance I took upon purchasing my first spider... etc... etc... etc...
And my bad, you only started two of the three threads that are current. I do apologize. :)

bruce i respect your opinions. you made some good points.

Re: new hybrid forum
Considering a lot of people have said they don't have a problem with them as long as it is done responcibly I think a Hybrid forum would be great. Those interested would have a place to go and get the facts on this site without having to worry about dealing with a hail storm of people saying they are totally against them. Moderators could control access just like Quarantine to prevent the old "I'm against them" post count from getting too high from people who are not there to be educators.
For me to finally get facts on the subject I actually went and talked with Steve Roussis. He has quite an amazing collection of hybrids and is not only well informed on hybrids, but is also someone I respect as a keeper of Pythons.
While Hybrids are a lot more work than I would want to get into he did bring up several important factors. The big one being Fluffy the kitty and Fido the dog are a result of hybridization. Yep it even holds true for your AKC documented dog.

Bruce, do you know where one could acquire a hybrid black list, or do I have to start my own?

no offense...but what is really to think about>> why would you say no?? thats unethical. To vote against another person talking about what they wish to talk about in a place where you dont have to see it is just foolish and selfish in my opinion....

The issue is what there is to think about. If you think that it is foolish to vote no then you must think that the poll giving the option to vote no is foolish in itself. If 4 people voted yes for such a forum and 104 people voted no, I would think it foolish to create a forum that generates no interest.I myself have not yet voted either way but I am unethical enough that I actually think about an issue before I cast a vote.

ok..buying a new car..think about it....marriage..thats something to think about..but a place where a few people can get together and discuss something of their choosing...i dunno maybe im wrong..i didnt know it was cool to deny people a place to speak here....its not like the objective is to change the website to hybrids.net or anything...and its not really a business a deal..i dunno i guess im wrong in thinking that no person should deny another person a place to speak his/her mind, once again in a little spot that none of you who voted no even ever have to go. im sure you have a "good reason" i just for the life of me cant seem to think of one...once again maybe im wrong i dunno. if i hated bananas, and there were people on this site who liked em, who am i to say no dont do that you cant talk about bananas anywehere near me!!!!! aaaahhh!!!! i should not have the power to do so...im fortunate enough to be from america where we have freedom of speech, which to be means you have the right to express or not express what your feeling, why would anyone person want to deny that to someone else...now i understand that if their wasnt much interest there would be no point...but maybe a hybrid forum would bring new members here that would feel more comfortable with a hybrid forum, as a matter fact i bet it would..once again why would anyone want to deny this, i have a straight up question and i want a straight up answer...why do a few of you want to deny some of us the right..actually i should say privilege, of being able to talk about what we want, in its own special little forum. Why???

once again just a friendly disagreement :D
is it really much of a issue..i mean id love to hear how this would personally affect someone in such a way that they dont wanna give anyone a chance to have a spot to talk about what they want with people who agree with them or with people who dont, once again noone will force you at pitchfork-point and make you go to that part of the forum...
sorry if i come off condescending or rude with some of these points i just do not understand why 14 of you would vote against a place for the 34 of us who voted yes to discuss hybrids..it is ball-pythons.net but you have forums for just about everything else under the sun..the least you could do is give it a trial period and if its too much for too little , then yall can kick it to the curbs if you want. once again i apologize if i offended anyone...

Re: new hybrid forum
In a small online community, every vote could be the swinging vote to win the Admins over. So, I don't blame him for taking a bit of time.
Every time I see a poll (including the Photo of the month threads) I review it, and come back later to vote. I want to make sure that I am certain my vote goes to the best suited option (in my opinion).

but is it really the best suited option to deny people the right to discuss anything?? All i want is for one person who voted no to explain to me why they feel its in their right to deny another human the right to discuss what they want in a forum...and you wonder why lucas posted a thread about another site i wonder if the 14 who voted against it are the same people who constantly bash hybrids to the point where he felt alienated.... maybe im missing something (which is usually the case)
and for the person who said they havent voted because you wanna take your time, sorry. that was the easiest route to this discussion, at the time, and i guess being from america this whole freedom of speech has me spoiled.
thanks guys.

Agreed, I am all for the Hybrid forum. However, Some people don't want to see a Hybrid section. Which is completely understandable. I have met people with an intense dislike for Hybrids. Like Bruce said, if someone is known to make inter/intra-species hybrids, they are blacklisted from that community.
Personally, I think making a hybrid forum would cut way back on the conflict. While friendly debates are the life blood of this forum (and all forums), constant bashing is not. Anyone with a passionate dislike for hybrids could avoid that section.
Just my opinion.

I agree, partially. I believe everyone has a right to their vote. They obviously had a reason for that vote, and I have no right to question it. Just like Lucas has the right to poll for the possibility of the forum, and you had the right to vote for it, people have the right to vote against it. That is part of democracy.
Ultimately, it's up to the Admins though, so..while we can ASK for something, it's their decision to do what is best suited for the forum.

Re: new hybrid forum
i guess im just hung up on the whole You dont even gotta go there thing, but even though i do like hybrids and want to learn more, after what bruce said my thoughts of trying to breed one are gone haha. and i respect everyones decision, and yes you do have a right not to want it here, but like michelle said...

Voting no on having a separate forum doesn't deny anybody from talking about it. Hell, just browse through the blood python forum and see how many superball threads you can find. No one's been denied of anything.
On a side note, I voted yes, so the superball threads get moved out of the blood python forum. lol

You do know that your constitutionally given rights don't mean squat here on this privately owned and run site, right?
And you do know that no one has been denied the right or even permission to speak on hybrids, right?
So what's got your panties in a wad?
The fact that you cannot phrase a question in a non-combative format is whose problem? Right......
So, to sum up, no rights have been voided. No one has said NO it won't happen at all, a few, whose opinions were specifically queried, answered.
Oh, and one oddball, a REALLY weird guy, wanted to think before he answered.
Heh.
Personally, just so you know, I didn't vote. I don't care if there is a forum here for a really good reason. No one here is going to influence my making or not making hybrids. I've been breeding jungle corns and pyroXblairs crosses for decades. Like I care if someone doesn't like it.
Those of you who do or don't based on public opinion alone are, well, rather pathetic.
If you want to talk hybrids, talk. If someone is rude or mean, either put them on ignore or learn to argue better than they do OR, learn that the only person you need to be happy with is you. Be honest and let the rest fret over the nonsense.

ok we can talk about but you are denying a specific place where it can be talked about freely...if i pull up the last 3 hybrid subject-threads, id be willing to bet that they are 5-6 pages of bashing. but either way i just flipped out for no reason, for some reason it got me angry..not angry jus passionate about this, but like yall mentioned i dont see a sign anywhere that says no hybrid talk...but at the same time you all gotta agree thats a very sensitive subject here, and i just think a seperate forum for it would be amazing.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
i guess thats what my original post woulda said if i was cool calm and collected at the time. and once i get going on something its very hard for me to admit i was wrong, so i just try to roll with it till i just end up giving up haha.

Sounds like a broken record but again when were your rights denied?
BTW your participation on this forum is not a RIGHT but a privilege.
The thing is over the years since I have been a member here many new forums have been implemented, however none of them were implemented because of members pitching a feet, DEMANDING a new forum to be created while bashing this site in the process.
People can talk hybrid on this site and already do, the problem that people have is that they can’t handle the criticism…….well guess what an hybrid forum will not change that.
People who participate on forums have different opinions and sometimes people do not agree and this can be seen anywhere whether it is the Ball Python, the Boa forum or any other forums.
How many debate have we seen about people breeding young female BP under 1500 grams??? Many, do we need to implement a forum for people who breed female BP under 1500 grams as well? Will that make it any different?
The only way you can have a forum where YOU will hear what YOU want to hear is by creating a Private forum that is on invitation only.
Any other forum no matter what the domination will have people posting their views whether they are favorable or not, that is what a forum is all about. (And I think a forum where everyone agreed would be VERY boring)
Now about voting, did I vote? No I didn't, why? Because one option is missing here and it is:
I do not care if a new forum is created or not (That would be my option)
