Congrats on the puppies Susan! Give that momma a nice scratch behind the ear from me for a job well done. Pits are such goofy dogs, I love their constant grins! Keep us updated with pictures and progress as the puppies grow!

But the babies will be UKC registered they are purple ribbon bred, so will have purple ribbon papers. I was suprised they all came out blue. Not that I mind though.LOL

Re: Check out my 6 new additions!!! (Soo far)
Dad is beautiful! What's his name? Do you do any type of weight pulling training with him, or agility. He looks mighty fit, that's why I ask.
BTW, I'm a sucker for blue pits! The parents must have blue in their bloodlines, eh? Feel free to send me one for christmas! (honestly, if you're selling them and can ship, lemme know.;) )

His name is Bully! But he's not actually mine!:( And I'm not sure if he does weight training! He is a great looking dog though. He's also mighty well behaved!
Here's his website.

And I haven't thought about shipping them. I've had friends that shipped before through airlines. I'll have to think about that and let you know.

Joe,I believe to be UKC registered they still have to be purebred pups. I know of pit breeders that breed their dogs for the biggest blocky heads they can...as well as breeding for a muscular stout body type.

Re: Check out my 6 new additions!!! (Soo far)
Yes, the parents are both pure bred American Pitbull Terriers!

Re: Check out my 6 new additions!!! (Soo far)
They're pretty, I love blues. I like puppies and kittens, but I don't approve of breeding any dogs or cats(unless endangered species) as we are just euthanizing too many animals on a daily basis for me to justify it(hundreds of thousands of animals, to be exact). I hope you can consider getting your female spayed when her beautiful litter is weaned. She would be much better off(no uterine infections, no chance for mammary cancer, ovarian cancer, etc).
Is the male registered? He looks alot like an American Staffordshire instead because of his large head(slightly disproportionate looking). The AKC has Pit Bull Terriers to be more lean, smaller heads, etc. Seems the breeding for large heads would give a much greater risk at dystocia(difficult birthing). Kind of like English Bulldogges(who wouldn't reproduce without our help...)
Were you planning on getting their dewclaws removed? If they are under 5 days old, you can get them safely done and they will heal no problem. I just think it would look more professional and they wouldn't have problems with them later in life.
Good luck with them. I hope they grow up to be happy, healthy, well-adjusted dogs. :)

Re: Check out my 6 new additions!!! (Soo far)
Thanks for the pictures! I looooove the second one with the white face markings, and that last little solid blue is pretty adorable as well. If the momma were my dog, I would've been freaking out with excitement, glad all are doing well still.

I'm actually not sure if we are getting her spayed. I had orginally planned on her having one litter then spaying so we'll see.
And YES the daddy is registered he is a ABPT. We had a couple of studs to choose from but we chose him b.c of his look, size, and temperment. I'm a sucka for big heads..LOL..:P
I will not be declawing them, or cropp'n ears. I like the un-cropped look(my opinion of course!)
-
Re: Check out my 6 new additions!!! (Soo far)
Not declawing. They have a claw higher up on their leg, called the dewclaw. It sometimes gets snagged on stuff and can be removed pretty easily at birth. It's not a MUST do kinda thing. I agree on the ear cropping. They look way cuter with the floppy ears. I hated helping with those surgeries, and all the after care, the poor things.....
-
Re: Check out my 6 new additions!!! (Soo far)
Those are adorable little pups!!! Can't wait to see more pics of them with open eyes and all the silly little puppy antics!!
-
Re: Check out my 6 new additions!!! (Soo far)
They look like gigantic rat fuzzies.. not that that's a bad thing!
Floppy ears are cute, but I've always been partial to cropped ears.

Re: Check out my 6 new additions!!! (Soo far)
No no, I didn't mean declawing(that's not really feasible with a dog anyway). I just meant removing the dewclaws so they didn't cause problems in the dogs later in life(getting snagged on stuff and getting ripped out, owners forgetting to clip those nails and the nail grows into the dog's leg, etc). The majority of dog breeders do take the puppies to the vet around day 2-3 and get all of this done and to also get them checked over for cleft palates, etc.
About the spaying, if you don't plan on breeding her again, and she goes into heat, she could end up with an infection in her uterus called pyometra. The only way to get rid of it is to spay her anyway. Not to mention all of the other problems that can come about from not spaying a dog. I once helped in a case involving a 12 year old intact female Cocker Spaniel who had massive mammary tumors running the length of her belly(softball size), she also had ovarian cysts that were quite large and ready to rupture when we went to spay her.
I'm not trying to scare you, I'm just trying to make you aware of the things that can happen with keeping dogs intact. They are nice puppies and I hope you find good homes for them.

you are my new favorite person
I wish there was somone like you that could inform EVERY back yard breeder that comes along
I love pits but there are plenty in shelters needing homes

Ok..Ok..I expected to hear a lil heat about adopting shelter dogs. But I bred my female b.c I (along with my family members) wanted HER offspring. WE choose the best male to produce what qualities WE want in a dog.
Excuse me if I didn't take the time to correctly read the post about declawing..I would NEVER declaw a dog...and didn't even think it was even done. However I didn't want to disrespect the person that had posted it by saying so!! I understand now he was not talking about declawing...I should have took more time to read it..
But saying I am a "backyard breeder" implies that I have produced a "less then worthy" (for lack of better words at this moment)dog. I take much offense to this!!! Both these dogs have PURPLE RIBBON PAPERS!! I am not breeding 2 crazy @ss dogs to produce more crazy @ss babies to run around and help add to the reputation that Pit Bulls have come to receive.
-
Re: Check out my 6 new additions!!! (Soo far)
this has nothing to do with removing dew claws...
so every one of those pups you or your family is keeping?
you don't intend to sell any of them?
-
Re: Check out my 6 new additions!!! (Soo far)
Why would that matter?? Would that qualify me as a "backyard" breeder? Or would it be the same as someone who has a love for ball pythons and wants to start breeding?
-
Re: Check out my 6 new additions!!! (Soo far)
I asked because you said
"But I bred my female b.c I (along with my family members) wanted HER offspring. "
if you were breeding your dog in hopes of selling puppies for profit then you would be a back yard breeder (real breeders do not make profit after all the health testing, ect they pay for in hopes of bettering a breed)
there is a difference between breeding dogs and breeding snakes
you don't see thousands of snakes being euthanized on a daily basis because there aren't homes for them (pit bulls especially)
obviously you've already done it but I hope you get your dog fixed now that you've got some of 'her offspring'
-
Re: Check out my 6 new additions!!! (Soo far)
Are you serious? I mean really serious! You think "real breeders" don't make a profilt?
lol......
