If you're not experianced with probing or "popping", PLEASE....take it to a vet or someone with experience. If you don't know what you're doing, you will hurt your snake.

Find a local reptile breeder or reptile store, they should be able to probe it for you. Your vet should do it for free since he's not treating it or anything.

Are you wanting to know the sex for breeding purposes? If not it can be whatever you want it to be as a pet is a pet ;) .

Ummmmm - just thinking out loud - why will you never be able to get it to a vet? Did you consider this before you bought a pet that may need medical attention at some point in your care?

I'm curious about my ball, as well. Should I trust the people at places like Petsmart? To be honest I do not personally know any reptile breeders.

I hear they have variances in tails, such as female's tails get smaller in a more sudden fashion, whereas the males have a more smooth body line approaching the tail. Though. I am not taking those for grantid.

What is mine Adam!? His name is Mr. Slithers (girlfriend named him!) I named his wiskers cause when he shed he had some tiny peices of skin that didnt fall off his chin right away, and they looked like wiskers!

So is he/she a boy or a girl, just assumed he's a boy!? Do you need a picture?

I'm just speaking for myself, but I would not trust any petstore employee to sex my snake. There MAY be someone there experienced enough to do so....but way more often than not, employees at pet stores THINK they know everything simply by virtue of the fact that they work in a pet store....when really, they know virtually nothing.

Only if they know what they are doing.Do not just let someone try to determine the sex as you could hurt the snake.

Yeah...it's unfortunate for those few pet-store people who really know and love their craft. They get lost in the riff-raff and us average folks can't tell one from another unless you have time to really get to know them.

I was actually think vets with supposed experience. Bah, you're right though. There is a reptile only store, maybe they'd know of some people. Guess you just gotta be careful.

Sarah i am unsure of where you feel someone is being sarcastic.Unless its the comments about the pet store of which every word is the truth when it comes to most pet stores.I am not trying to be rude just wondering if you might have read something differantly then it was meant to be.

Sarcasm? It was just a playful post meant in the spirit of fun ... I'd hope that if I was actually trying to be a jerk, I could do a lot better than that.

I'd like to think that after answering a few hundred "what sex is my snake" posts a year that I would be allowed the free expression of my naturally charming sense of humor every now and again ... I guess I'll never be able to please everyone. :salute:

    Sarah,

The unfortunate thing about the written word is you can't read tone into them. I re-read the thread - I'm missing the snarkiness? I do see people being light hearted and joking though.

Wow, this thread is uber-tame compared to a LOT of other threads on this site :) But most of it is in good fun, and when it isn't most people can have a serious disagreement without it degrading.

And if you were talking about Adam hehe, well, Adam is Adam :)

    In answer to the OP:

Popping or Probing, professional, lots of pet stores I wouldn't trust.

You can look at spurrs but that isnt really deciding.

Ha, Jamie, you crack me up.
The muscle relaxers are fun, but they make my brain feel a bit numb. That's a little frustrating, since I still have a business to run!

Back OT, I'm looking forward to learning how to probe later this month. I wouldn't feel comfortable attempting it without being shown how, though!

That's actually from different directions in the snake. There shouldn't be a problem as the Hemipenes were probably unaffected by the prolapse, but I'd check with a vet first.
