Unless you're a fuzzy...:D You're going to have so much fun watching his health improve. These little snakes have a lot of personality & they're full of surprises.

Thanks for being such a great snake mom and taking good care of him(?).

Fed little one again tonight. 2nd feeding and doing really well. No regurge at all. Basking on the warm side more often. Still inquisitive and interacting. This little one is doing well. No signs of mites. Still have not super cleaned his cage since I just want him to relax for a while. I have had him one week today and not sorry I took this one in.
-
I think he's not sorry you took him in either...:D :gj: So happy that he's doing so well...you never know what you're getting into with rescues, and it's
next to impossible to say "no" to a little snake in need. (speaking for myself, LOL)

Re: Rescue pueblan uodate
Here he/she is after a fresh tank clean and 2 meals since taking it in. Don't see much of a difference yet but I did see poop in the bedding. Not sure if recent though. I don't know how long it has been since his tank has been cleaned. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...7c5c7e2c72.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...157b1b5f96.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...0ef523041d.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...10e8712714.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...5855ea2935.jpg

Little one ate again tonight without issue. He has gained 4g. I got him at 78g and nOw he is 82. Is that a good weight gain for a week and a half? Next feed he goes to two fuzzies. Each fuzzy is 7g.
Im really enjoying this little one.
-
Hardly anything is more gratifying than to rescue a snake (or other animal) in need of help, & then to watch them improve & thrive. :gj:

Re: Rescue pueblan uodate
Ok we for sure have poop! Yep, we have solid poop not all mushy. Haven't seen the white stuff yet (forgot what it's called). Here is the little one at 84g (maybe a little more now) with all his new plants and two new black hides that used to be Odyn's. Temp and humidity gauge as well. Temps are good gradient in the cage and he does move around the cage for his regulation. I'm so happy for this little one. Going to two fuzzy a next feed. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...6224572938.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...1a3b981e0b.jpg

The little one weighed in at 92g tonight and is on his 2nd feeding of two fuzzies. He is doing really well. 2 more feeding of two fuzzies and move up to a hopper? Or should he go to three fuzzies?
-
Nice job!!
I think you're fine going from 2 to hoppers.
Happy to hear things are going well. :gj:
-
Re: Rescue pueblan uodate
You have been such a great snake mom. Keep up the good work.
-
Just be sure the hoppers aren't too big for his mouth....no harm using fuzzies either, they're easier for him to digest & his slow recovery is totally normal-
you're doing great & he's doing great, no rush. And the "white stuff" is called "urates"...:D
-
I'm more concerned if the hopper will be enough goi g from two fuzzies. The fuzzies are 7g each. Hoppers are usually 10-12g. And head size won't matter I'll crush the skull if needed before feeding.
-
Honestly (from what I can see of him) I'd probably keep him on multiple fuzzies for a while, & not sure one hopper would be enough, but you could do one
hopper + one fuzzy, etc. My TX Longnose snake eats like that, a mix of pinks/fuzzies/very small hoppers...typically 4 or 5 per meal in summer, actually.
-
Ah good idea. Thank you. I just want him to get all healthy lol. He looks to be going cloudy which I am so happy about!
Do I increase humidity when they go in she'd like a BP?

It's wonderful to see a neglected snake get to catch up on food & growth, but don't be surprised if it takes "forever" for him to look like he's gained weight-
he will, but at the same time, he'll get longer, making him still appear to be thin.
Normally it shouldn't be necessary to increase humidity, but he may still be a little under-hydrated, so a little more humidity might help, but don't over-do it-
his humidity needs are not the same as a BP. As long as he has a bowl of water & enough privacy to use it, he should be fine. It will be interesting to see if
he opts for soaking?

So Eeden (formally the little one) is in blue! This will be the First shed with me and he had a big poop and eurates as well. He is doing so well. My daughter named him. Since we don't know boy or girl she went with a gender neutral name. I think it fits well.
-
Eeden has really rallied with your TLC, it's wonderful to follow. :gj: Nothing wrong with not knowing & using a gender-neutral name either, I've never
checked the gender of my longnose snake...it matters not, & would only stress him or her for no good reason.
-
Re: Rescue pueblan uodate
Nice work Sunnieskys!
Keep it up and you will have a happy Pueblan for a long time!
-
Nice work with that little guy/gal. Great name choice too!
-
Thanks craig. I always wait until you post lol. django is awesome and I can't wait until Eeden gets big!
Eeden is 107g today, full on in blue and took two fuzzies. I left the third in for him to eat if he wishes.
Happy this little one is thriving. My daughter loved to hold him while she was here. She is a reptile girl!

Thank you so much! Yeah, Django's my buddy. I love love love all my snakes, but there's just something special about that guy!
Eeden seems to really be thriving with you. Great work!
I've never kept Milks, but if they're as close to their King cousins as I understand them to be, they'll typically eat ANYthing, ANY time. So don't rush the feedings.
Keep up the great work! It's such a rewarding feeling to turn a troubled snake around. Be proud of yourself and enjoy your new buddy! :gj:

Gues what Eeden weighed in at last night a feeding time?
122g! He has put on almost 40g!
He he is still eating two fuzzies. He refuses to take three so I'm going to switch up to a hopper and crush the skull so he can swallow it. He needs more at this point.
He is such an awesome little one!
-
Hey, that's great! :gj: I'll bet he feels like a whole new snake now.

That's great news! It sounds like he is doing fantastic for you.
Although, I will say that unless you have particularly large hoppers, he shouldn't have an issue with the size of a hopper at that weight, I don't think. I'd be curious to see a side-by-side (maybe glass in between?) to see why you're thinking he needs the skull crushed to get it down.
My honduran milk snake, Ghost, was taking 9-12 gram hoppers on occaision no problem at around 100 grams.

Nice job Sunnie and Eeden!!!
I don't think you need to crush the skulls, either. I'd offer one and see what heppens. It'll likely go down easy breezy. If there seems to be any difficulty maybe crush a few. The jump in prey size will likely result in a growth spurt too, so even if you need to crush a few you won't have to for long.

anytime I jump in size for colubrids at work I crush the skulls for two feedings just to be sure.

Re: Rescue pueblan uodate
This is Eeden with his first hopper. He dragged it into the subatrate so i hope he really ate it. I digged around and didn't find it sooo....and he ate a fuzzy right after for a total of 15g of food.
My hubby said you cant see his spine anymore. :)https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...c13f809eb2.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...e4e9df3adc.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...8ce8e8e8e7.jpg

If I didn't KNOW better, I might think that mouse was volunteering. "Here I am, snakey..."
-
You can see eedens little mouth in the first pic lol. Thank gods he eats FT!
-
Most colubrids are delighted to eat f/t...it's BPs that often balk because they want it warm as if alive. It's so nice to see Eedens in such good hands now. :gj:

Yeah colubrids are monster eaters!
My corns would probably eat a frozen rodent if I offered it!
Of course, I would never, ever, do that, but it wouldn't surprise me!
So glad he's doing so well!
-
Well to be honest most colubrids will just keep eating if you offered lol. They are food machines!

And boas & pythons aren't? ;) Most snakes don't survive by being fussy...I suspect BPs just didn't get the memo. :giggle:

Re: Rescue pueblan uodate
Beautiful...I love the color on these guys. :P
-
Beautiful yes, and he sure looks happy too. So lucky you were there for him!
-
Ok so question. He ate two adult mice yesterday. Odyn didn't eat his mouse so I offered it to Eeden. How long should I wait to feed him again. My intention was to give him one mouse but well....he gave me snakey eyes and Odyn didn't eat his.

Longer than you normally would, obviously...but he's a snake & nature has no schedule. No need to complicate things- wait until he defecates & looks "empty". ;)
And we're getting into winter, so even though he's warm, most snakes slow down a little...though he may not, as he's making up for lost time? I'm pretty sure
he'll be letting you know it's time. ;)
-
He went from two hoppers last week to two adult mice this week. He fat! And he is sleeping lol. He would normally stick his face out and look for me but nope....food coma. Lol.

That's a huge jump, hope he keeps it down.
