    tats!
Ok so where is the worst possible place to get a tattoo.....is on your sides bad or no? I'm asking because today I was supposed to get a tattoo of a rose with a petal falling off for my sister, the more family members that pass the more petals I will add. Is this a bad idea for my first tattoo? I am very nervous but I won't back out of it. Anyways it is rescheduled for Wednesday, does anyone have advice for me?

And if anyone is bored and has a photo edit thing would someone mind airbrushing the petals red and stem green?

Pain wise, the ribs can be something, but it is a great spot, especially on a girl.

As far as I am concerned the lower back is the worst place to get one. Way too overdone.

My foot was probably most most painful. I've heard that sides hurt.

Sides over the ribs, chest, and really anywhere over bone is painful. But if you can deal with that, put it wherever you want it. However, I agree with Jinx. Lower back is way over done. ;)

Yah I have heard the ribs can hurt like a B. Nothing like feeling the gun vibrate through our ribs.

I do not have any tattoos right now I am waiting till I lose all my weight. Once I hit my goal I am getting a sleeve tattoo done as a present to my self.

I want to get light sabers tattooed on the sides of my fingers. I wonder how that would feel.

But anyways. Your side would be a good place. Could do the side of your hip. Side of your thigh. Calf. L. or R. Shoulder Blades.

Yeah I will NOT be getting my lower back done no offense to those who have theirs done but I know wayy too many women who have lower back tats. Also I can not do my hip or thigh.....I am not the person to get comfortable enough with having a stranger that close to any covered part of my body, it's going to be awkward enough having to hold a shirt up and that's it....I get goosebumps thinking about it. I hate the thought of someone seeing me haha it's one of my phobias, not kidding...

Speaking from experience, the ribs weren't too bad. It did hurt, but it was definitely tolerable.
If it's something you really want, just do it.

I have tattoos (script) going down each side of my ribs and it wasn't bad for me and my whole upper body is pretty boney. My personal most painful spot was probably my wrist tattoo but it depends on the person. My elbow and inner arm shading for my sleeve is probably a second but still not too bad.

Oh thats too bad. Sorry to hear. I am over 400 pounds and defiantly dont have a good looking body and I really dont have a prob showing it off lol. I can easily whip my shirt off in the middle of a store or something now. I used to not be like that but then I thought. Why do I care what people think of me? As long as I am happy then thats ok with me.

They dont hurt like people think they do, its more of just an annoying itchy feeling.

Unless your artist doesn't know what they're doing then it can get to be like a dull pain.

I am severely paranoid so I'm constantly thinking people are judging me. Ask my husband it took me 4 months to let him hold my waist lol. If anything the thought of me being almost bare is bugging me more than the thought of the pain...

Get a tattoo in a more comfortable spot for you is my advice then. Maybe on the lower leg? I've heard leg tattoos aren't bad pain wise.

It is a really quick photoshop but here is the tat with colour. What do you think? It took me like 5 min so its nothing fancy.

Maybe upper back or on a shoulder blade? I have one there too and it's not bad at all and a nice big space to work with: plus easily covered up and to have it done you can just wear a tank or a tube top.

Oh :( I feel like an ass. I'm sorry :(

But I'm sure you'll be fine with the ribs. Just be prepared to hold still. :/ my tattoo artist had this lady who got her first on her ribs (bigger piece) and could NOT sit still. :/

Maybe you could do the calf, thigh, or upper back. Thigh would look super cute and would show with shorts :D

I agree, if your planning on adding more petals falling in the future then your going to need space under it. If it were me I would put something like that on my shoulder blade, perfect amount of room.
I got my first tattoo on my shoulder blade and it wasnt bad at all. a good beginner spot.

I have sat down for prolly 35+ tattoos, and let me tell you something. Tattoos hurt no matter where you get them, dont let somebody try and convince you differant. The way i see it is if i can just make it through the slight bit of pain, i am going to have an awesome looking piece that i really like and enjoy. Yes the ribs do hurt, but so does your neck, arm, leg, back, shoulder and so on. Depending on how big you want that tat, i think you will be just fine. Get it where you want to get it and deal with the pain. It will be over in a short time.:)

I have a tatoo from the back of my neck across the back of my shoulder and over the top down to about 3 inches above my elbow. Most people I meet have absolutely no idea I have any tatoos at all until we go swimming or something. A collared shirt covers the bit that extends onto my neck.

For a girl, ribs are hot and I have a thing for chicks with colorful half sleeves of flowers and fairies, but also dragons and kraken and such. Please don't get a tatoo on your calf, no offense to anyone. Some thigh tatoos work, but not if it's your first tatoo. They work on people who are more covered on the upper body.

As for the pain, it's not bad. Don't be a wus. Pain is temporary and that tatoo is going to be there for the rest of your life. I'd hope it was worth the pain...

Supposedly there are a tonne of tattooists who will let you have it for free if you can get the entire Lords Prayer tattooed on the bottom of your foot, which I can imagine is either very painful or incredibly ticklish :) From anyone I've spoken to wrists, elbows, ribs, feet and collarbone are supposed to be bad...But my wrist didnt hurt at all and my tolerance for pain is very bad. Also my rose on my hip touches the bottom of my ribcage and that wasn't even a twinge.

Surely this is a matter of opinion? I can tell you straight up neither of my tattoos hurt...Everybody has a different pain threshold. Mines odd...I have very low tolerance for pain usually but tattoos and piercings - no problem.

So, your saying your tattoos didn't hurt at all? No burning or stinging and not sore the next day or two? ALL tattoos hurt its just to what extent. I've gotten my ribs, chest, elbow, and armpit done and of those the only place I wouldn't get another is my armpit. I also have my arms done and the pain level there is low. But get your tattoo where you want it, you'll be happier in the long run and the pain doesn't last long.

As for the tattoo I have one on my side/ stomach and it hurt beyond anything I have even felt and I have had spine surgery, tore my rotator cuff, and I have my forearm tattooed. I barely felt the forearm tattoo but I passed out when they were tattooing my ribs.

Mind you I am a giant wuss. But it hurt a lot. My Gf has 7 BIG tattoos and she is in the middle of getting a boa done on her stomach, side, and thigh - She can barely get through the sessions. And she had half of her back done (the top half HAHAH) without even flinching.

If that's where you want it than the pain will be worth it. But that kind of tattoo could go anywhere and still look AWESOME.

What I personally felt from my tattoos, I wouldn't even consider pain and would do it over and over again. Also no, they weren't sore, just itched a bit. Which wasn't painful.

I don't really think tattoos hurt that bad either. I think it just feels like someone scratching at a sunburn. Sure it "hurts" but you won't get more than an "ow" out of me. I'm not crying or passing out lol. :P

I have part of a poem on my side/middle back. It hurt the most toward the sides but it really wasn't bad. If you can handle the first 10 minutes you'll be fine.

I really want another!! But not too sure what to get :P

    I have both sleeves done.
I have one leg completly done. These are full on colour. No bare spots.
I have my hands done, finguers and wrist.
I am now working on a full colour back piece.
Out of all that, the spots that were the worst, elbows and the ditch.(inside of elbow)
But, with all that said, my most painfull tat was my whole hairline tat on my head. That was FUC..G pain. Rattle the brain.:rolleye2:

Did you say on your head?! I'm sorry but there's a drawing line for me, no face, or neck, head tattoos. Not that they're ugly, some people get very beautiful pieces of art on their necks, but it's just not my thing.

The ribs can be tender, but in my experience, if you're having a large piece done, you start to go numb after about 45 mins or so. The ribs are a pretty hot place for a tattoo, and easy to cover when you don't want it to show.

Hand down, the most painful place I've been tattooed is the arm pit. The shoulder cap on my right sleeve goes all the way around, and the skin under there is no fun when they run the 5 line shader over it.

I would not recommend anything in that area for a novice, unless you really dig sporting a half finished tat.

When I got mine it felt like a cat was attacking my back. A friend got one in a similar spot and said it felt "nice"

And from my experiences tattoo artists are pretty nice folks, if you say you need a minute I'm sure they would let you recover.

The amount of pain can also depend on the tattooist. Ideally you'd have a light handed tattooist that can still pack in the ink. One of my tattoos was (stupidly) done by an inexperienced person and it hurt worse than any of my other tattoos. Moral of the story? Find a good artist and it can make a big difference in the pain level.

If you get it done on your ribcage the artist will probably just have you take your shirt off so it doesnt get in the way, rather than have you holding it up for like 2 hrs. Youll be wearing a bra so hes not gunna see anything he shouldnt be seeing. I like to think about tattoo artists like i think about doctors. Theyve seen it all and surely your body cant be the worst theyve seen lol. Good artists are 100% profesional, so i wouldnt worry at all what they think about you. Just get outta that mindset right now lol.

Well i would suggest the shoulder blade as a spot to get your tattoo but if you eventually wanna get this done then that probably wouldnt work then... I would say get it on your thigh then. Im not saying ribs hurt for everyone but it seems like ribs are one of the worst spots for alot of people. If you have a high tolerance for pain id say go for it just like ChrisS suggested since the pain is only temporary. But if you start getting it done and are twitching out from the pain the tattoo will get messed up and the artist will just stop bc they dont wanna do a crappy job.

X2. I'm really close with my artist. I knew her before she opened her own shop. I let her apprentice do her first tattoo on me (a few black bats) and wow did it ever kill

My side/ribs hurt the most but its also solid black. Took about 2 hours and I'm not gonna lie it was really bad. I think part of it might have been the tattooist he did a pretty bad job and now I'm not looking forward to get any touch up work done on it because how bad of an experience it was. If its something you want I think youll be able to handle it.

I also have my chest and back of my calf done those two weren't bad at all except the very middle of my chest straight on the sternum, only lasted a short while, and my leg didnt hurt a bit until about halfway, to almost all the way done when he was adding color over the black shading. Still very much tolerable just not really the best feeling.

Bikini top, and make sure neck and back tie. Then you can make an x tie (tie one back to opposite side neck making an x on your back) then undo one side and tie the loose neck side to the part it crosses. Hope that makes sense trying to explain from a guys stand point on how it looks there may be girl terms for all that. Or you could always tape your bra to yourself. Idk just throwing suggestions. I've seen the bikini thing before and the bigger you are up top the higher chance of showing more than your side. But tattoo artists make their money off of return business and word of mouth so they have to very precessional and respectful. You could ask them to turn their back while you undress and just cross your arms over yourself. That would probably be the most comfortable for you and your artist.
