    Dub Step: What Is It?
Does anythign other than techno-like music with a "wub wub wub" bass sound qualify as Dub Step? So far that's the only thing I find in common with all the songs flagged as Dub Step. Sounds like it should be called Wub Step instead.

It's a terrible trend in music that will hopefully be forgotten soon.

Someone told me the other day that it was a mix between techno and hard rock. I have never heard it, so I don't know if that is correct. I do like techno, somewhat, but I don't like hard rock. I don't think that I would be a fan of dub step.

Yea i'm pretty sure that's true. I think anything with heavily modulated bass counts as dubstep. Most of it's crap but there are a few songs i really like.

that's an example of a decent remix. It's a remix of a passion pit song if you've heard of them. Anyway i like the melodic dubstep like this. All the stuff that just makes noise and doesn't actually go with the music is stupid.

pokemon dubstep for those of you that grew up with pokemon :D

For me dubstep is just a fun thing to listen to occasionally, like the pokemon dubstep just makes me laugh. Me and my friends joke around and listen to it. When asked what music i listen to i never reply "dubstep" i just think some of it is cool :P

dubstep is to hipsters what house music was to ravers in the 90's, in my opinion. I live in Madison, WI. it is FULL of hipsters, therefore dubstep is everywhere. In a liberal town like mine, we learn not to be too judgmental, hahaha..

I was talking to my dad about this the other day:
Music has been deconstructed soooo much over the years..
Think back to the huge symphonies..
Then there was big band stuff..
    Then there were rock bands..
Then there was dj's and electronic music
    Then there were rappers..
Now everything is at the click of a mouse...

    Not sure what comes next.

Where I live in Santa Cruz, dubstep is everywhere. Basically the trendiest form of electronic music right now, it has a lot of that wub wub wub bass sound as mentioned earlier. "Burners", aka people who are really into Burning Man, tend to be the biggest fans. Personally, I wouldn't choose to listen to it for the music, but the wife and most of my friends are into it, so I end up at shows just to be social.

When I think of hipster I think of some kid from the 1950's with black frame glasses and a leather jacket.

So what are these new hipsters? Or is that a whole other thread? LOL!

people are just trying to understand what dub step is by generalizing a few things, don't get upset at everyone because you happen to come along and the shoe fits

To me Dub step is just the latest in a long line of the devolution of the drum and base genre. In its hay day it was a cross between dub and amen. It was dark and intense but balanced with beautiful soprano vocals, horns, strings and raga mc’s. Then around 97 the decline began, first jump-up, then 2 step now dub step. Each one more minimal and boring than the next. I don’t know why people insist on breaking things that are already awesome. What happened to the amazing, complex Jungle of the early and mid 90’s.:(

So, because I occasionally enjoy a form of music, find it annoying that people generalize about people who like said form of music, I'm immediately classified into the group?

    ..Wow.

That's pretty much the same as saying that because someone doesn't like a particular species of snake that they're for all snakes being banned.

I do like some of Skrillex's stuff which I think is considered Dub step, it does all sound pretty much the same though.

my sister is the epitome of a hipster. so is her husband. they are both white, extremely liberal, coffee shop type, very precise on their interests, very into the "new"..and now reside in Bed Stuy, Brooklyn, because...eh, why not? Harlem is getting overrun with hipsters too.

As far as calling Dub step fans hipsters: where I'm from that's what you see. I'm just calling like it is. I'm sure there's some more hardcore followers elsewhere or even here for that matter but where I am, I'm not seeing it....take offense or don't. none was intended.

dubstep is great ! and it will never die out ! because !
Dubstep (/ˈdʌbstɛp/) is a genre of electronic dance music that originated in south London, England. Its overall sound has been described as "tightly coiled productions with overwhelming bass lines and reverberant drum patterns, clipped samples, and occasional vocals".[1]

dubstep is a form of music that anyone can like ! i am in high school and 90% of the 4000 people at my school love it . it is the first musical genre that anyone and everyone can like

dubstep can make a bad song good, and a good song great

I'm on the outside of this conversation. I like dubstep. However you can tell when someone thinks they know it and the only artist they can name is "Skrillex".

There's MUCH better out there. Glitch Mob, Nero, anything UKF, Pretty Lights, Bassnectar, etc...

Here's some examples of what I listen to. Usually either racing or while working out.

Most of these are NSFW due to language, so please be aware. ;)

I really enjoy listening to Pretty Lights when I'm driving home from class late at night.

Re: Dub Step: What Is It?
First of all, anyone who thinks dubstep is like techno obviously has no interest in electronic music. It comes from garage and like any other type of music has become bastardized. It used to be good, with some really dirty beats, but I haven't been keeping up with it. Anyone who is interested enough will go to your friendly neighborhood youtube and sift through it!

I understand I may have gotten just a 0 point infraction, but I don't believe I actually broke any rules. I didn't try to bypass a filter, or "trick" anyone. I clearly stated that some of the videos (Not all) had a few curse words. It's someone's choice whether they listen to them or not. Why did you remove them?

Heck, if I hadn't said anything about the language, almost no one would know.

Thanks! If you have/use Pandora, then honestly create a new station and call it "Skrillex". Then everytime a Skrillex song comes on, give it a thumbs down. It forces Pandora to pick new artists who are similar, which has really expanded my listening tastes 10 fold. :D
