    Guns, Firearms, Boomsticks, etc.
I couldn't find if there was a previously existing firearms thread yet, so I apologize if there is. I have been shooting since I was a little squirt under my Dad's guidance, and am slowly acquiring my own for plinking pleasure and home defense.

So, today I stopped by my favorite gun shop in the area on the way back from a small reptile show (since it was like, five minutes away). I ended up leaving with a new firearm, a rifle. I have been toying with the idea to get one, and had some spare cash that I could get one with. Enter: The Kel Tec. Now, I know Kel Tec handguns tend to have a pretty poor reputation when it comes to reliability. But, I had heard of an intriguing little rifle called the Kel Tec Sub 2000. Its light weight, small size, and ability to fold up classifies it as a sub rifle. Even better, it uses glock magazines, even the 30 round magazine. I had also heard that it was a good rifle, fun for plinking and also suitable for home defense. I was thinking about getting a .22, but the power of a 9mm bullet was much more enticing.

Instead of coming home with a new critter, instead I came home with a new gun (which confused the housemates, since they knew I was going to a reptile show!). Of course, I had to play with it, clean it, figure out its quirks. My BP Yidhra modeled for me, such a star! And I realize how linty my bed sheet is, complete with white cat hair that really stands out in pictures! Also featured is my first gun and still my favorite, my Mossberg 500 Persuader, with a recoil reducing, adjustable stock.

Having shot one of those on a couple of occasions I can tell you that you came home with a very cool and fun gun. Check out the Kel-tec forums there are quite a bit of very cool accessories for it.

    Very nice Mossberg as well!!

I really wish the CMP would wake up and sell the M1A. I know they've got a ton of them stashed away somewhere, and I'd love to grab one without having to pay through the nose like we do now. I just got my Garand through the program, and I'm really enjoying it.

My latest acquisition is a Schmidt-Rubin K31. I snagged it for under $300 with a matching s/n bayo, and I couldn't be happier (scope not included...)

The mechanicals are NRA excellent, with a superb trigger, and it shoots 1.5" groups with Swiss Surplus ball. The round is very close to .308 ballistics.

If you have any interest in surplus rifles, I urge you to grab one of these while they're so cheap.

Awesome firearms guys! Right now I have an M4 and a Walther P22... Don't have access to pics at the moment, but I'll try to get some up later.

I hope I never have to defend my home, but I sure do sleep easy knowing I do have the means to protect my wife and I from armed intruders. In a perfect world we could all just prey and the bad guys would disappear, but the fact remains that there are some terrible people out there and they would not think twice about walking into my home and taking anything they want (including our lives)... Sometimes a different course of action is required.

All that being said... Firearms are a great recreation and I have been hunting and sport shooting since I was able to go with my dad as a young child. over the years he has taught me great responsibility and even better marksmanship!

Pics are definitely an added bonus! It is great getting to hear about everyone who shares the same recreational interest in shooting!

Someone has actually already attempted a break in into my house. Thankfully, they didn't make it past the steel back door. I rent, and thank the landlady for having that installed. They did manage to ruin the non deadbolt locking mechanism enough to warrant a replacement. I guess my Dad raised me to be very aware that most people who are willing to break in are also willing to dispatch any witnesses. With my bedroom being on the first floor of the rental house, I can hear anything unusual before those upstairs do.

I like the collapsing stock, and normally I don't care for that sort of thing.

I used to have a huge armory, but I've cut down recently to 30.30, SKS, 210 shotgun, 16G shotgun and the .45 Star PD handgun. Oh.. and I just got a .22 rifle to do the Appleseed shoots with. If any of you shooters haven't heard of the Appleseed shoots, please check it out. Great group. As soon as it's cooled off here, I'm going to one of the shoots myself, but the summer ones was beastly hot(and on a saturday when I work).

I'm one of the only places in my neighborhood that's never been broken into(knock wood). That's because I'm one of the only people that's got the armory and isn't afraid to use it(and isn't on probation and not allowed to have firearms!!).

If you live where you're not allowed to have guns, well, kudos to you. But don't think you'll never NEED to defend your home. You'll just be waving a baseball bat at those who aren't obeying the gun laws. I'm very glad you're happy living under those laws, but myself, I'll stay where I am allowed to defend myself rather than having to sit placidly and hope the authorities get to me to help before the intruder can cross the living room to murder me.

In a truly perfect world, events like the slaughter of a family in Connecticut by armed intruders wouldn't happen. But the world isn't perfect, so they do. Unfortunately, even if the police are called, they are usually there a while after the fact to clean up the mess and submit the paperwork, because they can't instantly teleport to every call.

Well...people (good and bad) DO have guns. If they outlawed guns...It would only take them out of the law abiding citizens hands. Criminals typically don't follow laws...

This theory rarely ever works... For instance in England, guns are banned. Yet criminals still have guns and crime has gone up an astronomical percentage.

The truth is this... Criminals are criminals for a reason. They will find a way to get a gun whether it is illegal or not. All gun laws do is stop law abiding citizens from having the means to protect themselves. There is a good reason why crime rates are directly correlated to gun laws. For instance in America the home to the most draconian gun laws are New York city, Washington DC, and Chicago. Funny how those cities lead the country in crime every year. Florida crime has systematically reduced every year since they allowed concealed weapon permits.

I enjoy my right to keep and bear arms. I won't be a victim nor will I allow my family to become a victim.

With that said here are a few of my favorite pieces...

So true! Do people watch the news? That alone is enough to make me wan't to have the option of self defense.

I built my M4 from the stripped Lower Reciever up. I used parts from various manufacturers and it has a custom 16" fluted barrel w/ Eotech sights. Jeremy78, Thats great and all you don't like guns, but really, must you insist to post repeatedly when clearly the only thing you are doing is pouring gas on fire?
Obviously we don't care, we own guns, we exercise our 2nd amendment rights. Every single weapons thread that has been started, you come in like your high and mighty, and it gets old. This wasn't a debate, the OP asked to see some guns. Its childish, and unneeded.

I have the deepest admiration for parents who take the time to help their kids learn both responsible and safe gun handling, and about the sacrifices that our forefathers (and mothers) made in the defense of liberty.

Well I feel as a canadian I got to say. I have many "guns". I have a mossberg500a for home defence, many hunting rifles from .22 to .308, Several pistols. I do feel that many of the home defence models like the folding sub gun that started this thread are next to usless in any real situations. Even sofar as dangerous in untrained hands.:colbert: that being said its your right to own one just like its your right to wear your hat sideways and pants around your knees, but both of these defeat the intended propose. Many tactical shooting trainers would agree that tactial training is far more improtant then the weapon you chose to fill the role.

It is true that here in canada we cant get some of the more rediculous guns, but come through my door in the middle of the night and see if you can tell that I only have canadian guns

It is true that here in canada we cant get some of the more rediculous guns, but come through my door in the middle of the night and see if you can tell that I only have canadian guns

Tactical training is incredibly important. One thing that makes me like the Kel Tec I picked up is that it is a tactical gun. After three years of Army ROTC and ad nauseum MOUT training, it is a comfortable firearm that is handled just like an M4. Not to mention, practice practice practice is important for any weapon, for home defense, hunting, or just target shooting. I personally go to the range weekly. I also just took and passed all my qualifications for a concealed pistol license.

Not trying to argue, but trying to make it clear I didn't get this firearm to be cool or ghetto. Far from it. I would have likely bought it even without the folding feature.

On topic, I should be getting a package from Midway USA today with components for reloading. I reload 9mm with my housemate. He got a reloader for his pistol, since he goes to the range so much too, and he taught me how to do it. I find it fun, and it really is cost effective and safe if proper quality control is done.

"Home defense" is my excuse to go out and buy more guns. Sssh, don't tell DH! I didn't buy any of them specifically for that reason, but it's a great deterrent when the neighborhood knows there's a crazy veteran hillbilly lady on the block with a house full of guns and snakes. :D

Anyone up in the NW recommend some specific solid tactical classes they've taken? I'm always looking to improve the skills and try to take one a year.
