What do you do for work?

I was just curious what everyone does for a living?
Me, Im a machinist. Currently I work for goodrich aerospace making landing gear for airplanes. I also go to school part time (every Saturday, every single Saturday... Ughhhhhhh) for machining and I'm a registered apprentice.

Hahaha I also work night shift. Thank god for an iPhone and long cycle times so I can come bug you guys on the forums Ehehehe.

I work at a frickin applelees. The money is decent per week but I work hella crazy hours. If anyone has any decent suggestions for a kid who finished college with a BA in Accounting let me know, I'm from north Jersey lol. BTW I hate accounting, it was a suggestion from my parents, I couldn't sit in a cubicle all day. I actually just want to be a manager somewhere for the experience.

At current I build and design custom lighting... do not say "that sounds interesting" because it isn't. :D

Mostly architectural lighting and high end residential for now, but I get the odd good gig. Got to design a crystal chandelier in aqua that looked like a humboldt squid, definitely one of the better custom jobs that I worked on.

Hehehehe at least it will come in handy when creating some sick vivs. You'll have the best lighting around right...:)

I was working on a rack that had LED recessed lighting at one point till I realized that was... well INSANE!!! :)

Now I just limit myself to the odd strip of LEDs up the back of the rack (shining on the wall behind) to give indirect lighting so that I can give a quick glance to see who has actually eaten their rat and who hasn't.

But my dining room has a barbie chandelier and my kitchen has a chandelier made out of plates and wine glasses... not so practical, but it beats the old chandelier made from shellacked and epoxied snake sheds and window screening...

Yeah, a big fan of Italian lighting here, so it means that my designs make no sense, probably good that the clients actually custom pick all their details. :)

Lol could be worse I sit in an office all night watching security cameras in a food plant or well I'm supposed to watch them but I watch movies instead I know what your thinking getting paid to watch movies.. lol its terrible... I'm insanely bored and there isn't enough movies in the world to keep me entertained long enough

I'm the General Manager and Structural design engineer for roof and floor trusses. Sometimes I get lucky and can escape the office to help the builders out. This gig is just a means to earn some cash. I plan on going back to college and majoring in either Biology or Theoretical physics; haven't made up my mind.

I work as a registered nurse at a hospital. I'm "float nurse" and am cross-trained to work in a bunch of different departments, which keeps it interesting. I also work the night shift... and actually really like it!

I'm a buyer for a company that provides front and back office point of sale solutions for several markets - hospitality (restaurants), entertainment (movie theatres, stadiums) and PSC (Petroleum Service Centers).

If you've ever been to AMC and used the outdoor kiosk to buy your tickets, that's us. If you've ever been in a Chick-Fil-A, Arby's, Krystals, Church's, Califonia Pizza Kitchen, Dunkin Donuts, that's us and our terminals that they're ringing up your orders on. We just picked up Chili's here recently. There's tons more restaurants, from fast food to high end, but too many to name - those are just a few examples.

If you've been to the Yankee's Stadium or the Dallas Cowboy's, or Miami Dolphins (as just a few examples) and purchased food, those are our terminals in the food areas - we just did the Miami Dolphin's Stadium right before the Pro Bowl this year.

If you're in an area where there's Sheetz or Wa-Wa's, those are our terminals in those stores as well. We're also international - Exxon-Mobil Malaysia, Shell Canada.

I like the job - it's never boring, the pay is decent, the PTO is generous, and the folks in my department are good people - not a lot of snarkiness in my group.

I'm an Operations Supervisor for CAT Logistics. yes the big construction yellow machines, only i work the client side of the business. I'm also a 6 Sigma Green Belt and CPS Green Belt. oh yeah, i also work the night shift.

I am a full time student at Stetson working on my BS is Biology. I also co-own a pet store, we specialize in saltwater fish, coral and reptiles. I have done lots of things before and when I was fired from my teller/loan closing position at the local credit union I couldn't find a steady job so I bought a pet store ;) Although if I had it all to do again I don't think I would own my own business. I HATE doing all the paperwork! I do really like taking care of the animals and searching out breeders for all the reptiles we sell. (I try not to buy any herps from wholesalers)

All and all it's not to bad and my partners Richard and his wife Kathy are very awesome handle alot of stuff so I can go to school full time.

I'm a licensed Professional Engineer in private practice. I specialize in designing factory equipment like assembly machines - mostly for the consumer products industry. There's almost 100% chance that I designed all or part of the machine that made something in your home. My major consumer products clients include Gillette, Proctor & Gamble, Keurig, Green Mountain Coffee Roasters. I also do machines and sometimes products for B to B products and some Forensic Engineering for the liability industry (lawyers and insurance companies).
I have owned my own consulting practice now for 6 years or so, and have been in this line of work for 18 years.
I'm also a registered Patent Agent.

I know for a fact that manufacturing is alive and well in the USA :salute:

I'm retiring from the military next week... :fest2::fest::party: What a long, wild ride it's been, but I would do it all again. I've seen a large part of the world and got to meet and experience a vast array of people and cultures over the years.The first 13 years were the good years and the last 7 were the worst, since that is when 3 of my 4 combat tours occured. In August I'm supposed to start teaching night classes at the local community college and I'm also contiuing my own education...

I work for the Rocky River Animal Clinic as a vet tech with the hope of one day becoming a vet.

I work at Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford CT..We make BlackHawk,SeaHawk 92's Helicopters and many more...Its a great job..

I'm an RN on a Med/Surg floor. Not my favorite place, but it's just too darn convenient for me to leave right now!

I work nights, too. Actually *yawn* I'm getting ready to go to bed after a long, stupid night.

After being in the army and police force in the UK I now do the hardest job of all .... Stay at home dad with three young daughters :rolleye2:

I'm a wine merchandiser for a local distributor. I drive around all day and stock stores.

I work as a Head Technician at a Specialty Pharmaceutical company and I am going to school at nite to be a BioChemisrty Major.
Love my job, I've been working there since I graduated high school and worked my way up to where I am today. They are the reason why I went back to school

These jobs are all insane! Hmm maybe herping and night shift have something in common hahaha. I should really be sleeping right now. :confused:

I built custom cabinetry for 4 years and also built display cases for the metropolitan museum of art in NYC. Was a Sous Chef for 5 years back in the day. Now I'm jobless... I hate N.Y. this place is so dead.

I'm a full time student at the University of Florida, and at night I'm head of Security at one of the largest restaurant/bars in Florida, right across from UF campus. I love the nocturnal hours and "getting my hands dirty":gj:

Full time Bio student at Northern Arizona University. I've worked, during breaks, at Target back home for the past 4 years...this will be my last summer!!! :banana::fest:

Returned to school as a physics student. Waiting to hear which UC I'll get into, if any... Interesting that there are some RNs on here--my wife is an RN at Children's Hospital of Orange County.

lol i had the same suggestion from the parents. i came up with the same conclusion! i would drive my self insane in a cubicle and probably go postal. so i decided to go a deifferent route and go to school to become an emt. but until i finish going down that path i am working at disney world running food. now it sounds horrible but i make $150 a day at least...

I work as a Research Scientist for a Dental Products Company in Orange County.

I am a stay @ home mommy, and we have our own reptile rescue and do lots of educational shows. I have a b-party this weekend which I still get nervous in front of people :) Our life is never dull! We do about 500hrs. of education a year.

I work maintenance full time and then also paint/maintenance tech here at the apartment complex where we live, part-time.

So each week for 7 years I've been working 60 hour work weeks, sometimes more if needed. And I still find time for our critters. Oh yeah, and the wifey too!

My motto is "I work to live, not live to work". Trust me, I'd quit my second job if we could afford to in a heart beat. It stinks not having a life, but I'm kinda used to it.

I study chemistry at the university and started my interviewing to start dental school in september. (Fingers crossed).
I also own my own window washing business in the summer.

I'm a warehouse rat that works...you guessed it...the night shift. It's deadend, but I've been there so long the pay is pretty good so I'm sort of trapped. It's easy work though, the hours are good, and it's stable, full time work. I can't complain, but I do any way.

I work offshore on drilling and production rigs. I have about 35 rigs I take care of. My company does natural gas compression. I also work the night shift and the day shift and the everyday shift. LOL

Ive been working as a heavy equipment operator for the past 11 yrs for VQ. I started working in asphalt when I was 18. We pave state roads here in PA,so next time your held up in traffic and your late for work, you know who to blame:rage:. We paved sections of I-81, currently im on rt 30 in Chambersburg and last year I worked on the Pa Turnpike(Ugh, what a nightmare). Cant really complain cause im always at a different location.:D

Last year and a half I've been a stay at home Dad and been loving it. Was the Regional Service Manager for a commercial laundry company that provided service and equipment nationally. Did that for 21 years. Been looking to get back to work without much success. Now being trained to sell advertising locally as an independent and looking to own my own laundromat. Going back to work for a large company is very unapealing to me.

Thats really cool. I grew up in a family of operators. Spent my childhood climbing on loaders, scrapers, track hoes, dump trucks and such :)
