heating, thermostat or rhetostat, and cover.
I have a couple of questions. First off I would like to know what is the best under the cage heater for a glass aquarium is. I know alot of people prefer the tubs and that's cool...I want to use my aquarium. Second which is better a thermostat or rhetostat (sp?) and what is a good 20 to 40 dollar one that I can get. and third I need a cover for my aquarium...I have a screen lock now but was wondering what would be a cheap cover to keep some of the moisture in.
Thanx in advance

This helps many people.

In the diy forum there is instructions on converting a screen top with foil and tape to keep in humidity that works good.
Re: heating, thermostat or rhetostat, and cover.
Thanks I have read that before just forgot about it...I appreciate it.
Re: heating, thermostat or rhetostat, and cover.
Remember to think about the size of the aquarium, and the size of your BP. If the tank is too big for the snake, it'll cause stress.
Re: heating, thermostat or rhetostat, and cover.
The reptitemp 500r is probably the best beginner thermostat. It is around $25 and works like a charm! I prefer thermostats over rheostats because it takes the guess work out of setting the temps. With rheostats you have to constantly adjust.
Any kind of UTH will work, I like to use the zoo-med UTHs personally.
Re: heating, thermostat or rhetostat, and cover.
My girl is in a 20 gallon tank and she's a little over two foot. I need to get some pics uploaded I just haven't had the time to yet. Maybe I'll get to that this weekend. and thanks Kaorte for the thermostat vs rhetostat info.
Re: heating, thermostat or rhetostat, and cover.
I think a 20g will be fine. Just make sure you provide some nice tight fitting hides with a small opening. Covering the back and sides of the tank will also help your snake feel more secure and help keep the temps more stable :)
Also, :welcome:!!

This is going to sound dumb but would glad press and seal work on the screen to keep humidity in? ....has anybody used this method?

As long as it doesn't come in contact with a hot light it should be fine?
I used the glass from a picture frame on my 20L tank and it works great.
Re: heating, thermostat or rhetostat, and cover.
Press n seal doesn't do as good a job as the foil. :)
Just remember to insulate the back and sides of the tank to keep heat in, and foil treat the screen and things should be fine.
The ZooMed UTH pads are what I use, and they're fine, but many others use Flexwatt heat tape. With both, you need a thermostat. Rheostats are crud and not worth the money unless your snake room is always the same temp all the time.
The ZooMed Reptitemp 500R thermostat is a good starter if you don't have much money. It can be had for $20 or so on ReptileSupply.com
You can keep BPs in a 20gal Long tank for most of their lives comfortably. :)
