Some people dont believe in lowering temps. But in the BP's natural environment during the winter the temps drop to about 86ish during the day and mid 70's at night... so if you do drop the temps it shouldnt stress your snakes out. There is a good guide to gradual temp changes at

    http://8ballpythons.com/journal/breedingcalendar.htm

by gradually lowering temps it will be easier on the snakes and not just an all of a sudden 5 - 10 degree drop in temp

    hope this helps

I put my stat on a timer and when im ready to breed i shut the heat off for about 4 hours a day they get to about 80 and they run normal temps other then the 4 hours ! It's seems to work for me they also know when the days get shorter to . Im no expert but it seems to work for me .

Depending on how you put your heat tape, you can just buy another thermostat.

That's what I gonna do. Since, if you breed and get eggs, you gonna need a thermostat for your incubator. So why not buy one that will be useful for both :)
