Keeping the smell down!

I clean my BP rack every week, and every time one of my snakes craps, but the smell just doesnt seem to go away. Any tips on helping with the smell issue or any advice would be good!

you can try an air purifier or run a fan down there. I have about fifty in one space and that keeps the smell down to about nothing

are they in a very enclosed area.. I have loads in one room and never know when one poops.

Note: I use this in conjunction with chlorohexadine. Chloro first to disinfect, then Healthy Habitat for a fresh smell. :)

Soaking also works too. Hot water and a little bit of dishwashing soap.

Chlorohexidine, Bleach, Soap...(be careful with bleach, I believe its a 1:10 ratio, and make sure you leave no residue from the bleach)

First off, how do you clean those racks?

Air Purifier may actually work, but be careful with the fan...you may just spread the smell...

You can always stuff an Altoid down the F/T's throat for a curiously strong but refreshing scent...

I'm guessing you have some big guys in those racks, hence big poop, hence big smell...

Thanks for all the info! As far as how I clean the racks I once a week remove the snake and throw the substrate away (Papertowel) then I spray the cages with Chlorohexidine. I ran out of Chlorohexidine and dont know were to get more. Then use a paper towel to wipe all of them out. Then I put the snake back in, for spot cleaning I basicly do the same thing.

reptilebasics.com carries chlorohexidine in the small and large concentrates.

You can do this way if you are a DIY kind of guy.

When using paper towels you have to clean everytime that they urinate, if yours are babies or juveniles that can be quite often.

And if all that doesnt work, try a new substrate...perhaps Aspen ... don't even buy the big bag, just test it out to see if it reduces the smell...If it does, then perhaps investing in a real big bag might benefit your nose...
