It hott enough?

Hey everyone,
I got a ball python a few weeks ago and tried feeding it today and it refused to eat. I double checked the heat and the humidity and everything reads okay. The hott side is 90 and the cool side is around 78 but when i felt the glass above the UTH it didnt fill that hott. It felt warm but I thought it would be much warmer for being 90 degrees. I got my thermometer from walmart, an acuright or sumthin like that.. I was just wondering, does yalls tanks feel hott above ur UTH?

i know i should have it controlled by a thermostat but i cant afford one at the moment. i do have a lamp dimmer to keep the temps from spiking

You will hardly be able to feel even 94 degrees with your hand, but it depends on alot of things like the temperature the outside of your hand is, and the temperature of your surroundings. If the thermometer reads 90, then it should be 90.

Extremities (arms, fingers) are much colder than the core body temperature so yes, you will be able to easily feel 90* surface temp.

As long as your probe is right on the glass where the UTH is and it doesn't read higher than 94*, then you are good. I would trust the thermometer before my hands.

Yes, but it wont be hot to the touch..

What kind of food did you offer? Could have nothing to do with the temps, since BPs can be picky eaters... it took us almost a month to get Delilah (my first BP) to eat, since we didn't realize she only likes mice.

I offered him a frozen fuzzy.
I know bps can be picky eaters so i'm not gonna worry about it too much, i just wanted to make sure my thermometers were working alright.

Should I wait a whole week to try to feed him again or try again in a few days?

Wait a week, they can survive. Try to keep them on a regular feeding schedule if you can, sometimes it can help them to take food.
