UTH and Paper Towels Question
I noticed on the package of the UTH it said not to use only paper towels as a substrate. I have yet to plug mine in yet because I wanted to ask ya'll about it first. I am using my heat lamp until then. I currently use paper towels now as my substrate.
I was wondering what substrate you guys use with your UTH's???
Re: UTH and Paper Towels Question
If you are using a thermostat, where the probe is connected directly to the heating surface of your UTH, then you will have no problem using paper as your substrate. This is assuming that you are installing your UTH under your snakes tank and not in the tank. (I only say this because you did not specify your intent)
I believe, as do most all others on this site, that any type of UTH requires the use of a thermostat to regulate the amout of heat that your snake is receiving. UTH's typically get to hot to use unregulated.
Hope this helps.

yep. if its not on a thermostat or dimmer (dimmers suck.) your snake will get cooked. but with a thermostat set to 90-92 degrees...there will be no problem at all. the warning is because the uth without a thermostat will reach 115-120 degrees.
Re: UTH and Paper Towels Question
Ooops sorry guys!!! I forgot to add that I will be using a Thermostat as well. Plus my intentions are to put the UTH under the tank, under the warm hide!
Sorry, I am a bit scattered dealing with my little sis's addiction issues. I just completely spaced adding all of that info for you all so you could get the whole picture!
Re: UTH and Paper Towels Question
I use newspaper with paper towels as substrate with my UTH connected to a thermostat and I haven't had any problems. The temp stays always at 92 degrees...before I got my snake and my thermostat, the heat pad once reached 120 degrees.
Re: UTH and Paper Towels Question
Thank you all very much!!!
That makes a lot of sense that the package is refering to those who for reason do not use a T-Stat or dimmer with their UTH.
