"Squish" The Burmese Python Rescue (sad update)
    Spoke too soon…..

    Original Thread:
    http://www.ball-pythons.net/forums/s...ad.php?t=98278

Sadly “Squish” has recently regurgitated the small rat she was fed. She kept her food down for a couple of days. We were thrilled with that. We see many on the verge, and the best sign is being physically able to keep prey items down.

Here is another (bad) picture to try and give you guys a better understanding of how emaciated she is:

I am sad to say but we have come to a conclusion with our DVM (qualified in Exotics) that if she stays in the state she is in, and if she doesn’t pass away naturally, we will have to euthanize her this coming Tuesday (08/11/09) We all agree to give her a bit more time..
But to be honest she has suffered long enough. If anyone reading this has rehabbed an extremely emaciated herp in this condition, you know that they individually have to fight for themselves. But sometimes there is nothing that can be done.
It is a very hard decision. The ball is in her court.
Please keep her in your thoughts. I will try and update with any changes.
And thank you all again for being such a group of great supporters and friends.
    Sincerely,
    Rusty & Mike

PS You all give me a reprieve from the sadness I see too often, and you all are just such a great group of herp folks. I just thought I would take a second and let you know how much your support means to us here at CTRR

    Just terrible.

It makes the ones that make it though, all the much more sweeter.

At the end of the day, you can only do as much as you can.

    Thanks for that.

Thank you for giving it your best. You're right. Sometimes there is just nothing more you can do. The sad part is that someone caused her current state of suffering. But at least there are people out there like you that are willing to help.

I am so terribly sorry for your loss. You did a very admirable task when you took her in and cared for her.

So sorry to log in after being gone for a few days and see she didn't make it. She was a beauty but you did everything you could for her. It can be unbeleivably disheartening when these things happen.

I'm so sorry...this is such a sad story. She was such a beautiful snake too. When I ever read the original thread and saw that she had been kept in a 20g, I just about cried. That is absolutely terrible :tears: I think it's wonderful that you were able to take her in and do everything you could for her. At least she knew some love and comfort in her life. Again, I am so sorry :( and I hope the bps are doing better

Rusty, I'm so sorry I've been away from the site for almost 2 weeks and missed the posts on Squish. Such a lovely snake to be in such an awful condition. I know that it's hard to lose any of them but perhaps her poor body just needed to slip away finally. I know you and Mike did your best and must be so sad you couldn't have gotten her sooner and maybe had a chance to bring her back from the edge. :(
