How to start breeding balls?

OK so I was thinking of starting to breed ball pythons. Not to make a living out of or anything just for fun and to make some extra money. Right now I have a normal female, she's only 4 months so I don't plan on breeding her anytime soon. But when the time comes I want to know what a good, cheap morph to start out with is, i was thinking of a pastel but i figure i'd ask some experienced people.

Hi, First off I think its cool that more and more people are getting into breeding ball pythons. That being said, a fairly cheap snake to breed to a normal with a nice return in my opinion would be a lesser or a mojave. Both of those bred to a normal will yield 50% Normal and 50% Lesser or Mojave depending on which you picked. Hope this helped, good luck! :banana:

Counting on BPs to make you money, even a little bit is never guaranteed. Welcome to the hobby and the site, enjoy your stay and absorb all the knowledge you can. As for your first morph...given that you have about 20 more months before your girl will be perfect for breeding, you have time to save for a co-dom or dominant male or even a combo male like a spinner or a lesserbee or something along those lines. Theres a lot of choices, make the one thats best for you.

Don't have any expectations about earning money with your BP's. Breed them because you enjoy it.

You can start with buying a bunch of normal females to get them up to breeding size. In the meantime, save some money for one or two co-dom males.
And like Pavlov said, a double co-dom or dominant male is even better.

Your best bet is to get a few normal hatchling females. Then in a couple years if you still want to breed you can get a more expensive male morph. Generally speaking, Females start to breed around 3 years old, and males can breed at one year old.

Like everyone else is saying, go with some nice looking normals girl and start with like a pastel, spider, mojo, lesser, etc. male. Don't go with any recessive animals now. You'll get hets. But you can also get some nice hets from a trustworthy breeder, like albino hets, ghost hets, and if you really want even pied hets. It's really all up to you on what morph you like most. :gj:

Get what you like, not what others tell you do. You won't regret it that way.

A fire is nice. And the super is a white black eyed snake. Not bad at all and if it wasn't for the lesser and mojave being more popular (before the fire was proven) and producing blue eyed one, they would be everywhere. But they should still be in the future since they clean up and make beautiful combos.

Recessive are nice too. Just for the fact that you will never have "normals", unless you breed het to normals or het to het. Getting recessive girls is a good thing IMO.

but don't plan on making money. But if they pay for themself, it's not a bad thing.

Yeah i don't expect to make huge amounts of money, i was just hoping for a little to help with supplies, and has anybody ever bought from constrictors.com? Are they trustworthy?
