7/26/09 Rescue 2 Dumerils Boas

Sorry no pics just yet. (I think my camera is going on strike)
Anyhow two came in together same cage (40 breeder). They are not sexed yet and are approx 3.5 yrs (per orig owner)
They are now separated and in ISO. They are both looking good just a bit underweight.

I was just wondering from the other BP.net friends who happen to own this species if they would like to post pics of their enclosures.
I am thinking ground space is the best. The size that they are they could get away with being in 40 breeders individually.
Just wanted some ideas on how you all may keep them.
I have always loved Dumerils as many of the BP.net veterans could attest too. I am excited to have them in house.
Anyhow just thought I could start a thread about Dumeril enclosures (really so I could swipe your ideas..lol Just kidding:)

I'll post up pictures of my girl's cage later. I have a Dumeril's boa, and she's 1.5 y/o. She's a total sweet heart but did give me 2 months of a hard time from not taking f/t mice. She eats f/t rats now, which I'm glad about. Look up some care sheets right now and I'll give you some info on them later and post pics. Good luck!

Well, the thing is that Dumeril's boas like to burrow in the ground hence their name Dumeril's Ground Boa. Dumeril's boas love to hide underneath the substrate, so that's why it's best to have at least 1-2 inches of substrate (Aspen Bedding or Sani Chips preferably). It makes them feel more secure, and it's always best to have 2 hides on both ends of the enclosure. Though, they may rarely use the hides.

My boas although i don't have a dums but they bury themselves under the newspaper.But it doesn't really effect them.I know a guy in vegas has an amazing dums that is pregnant on newspaper he keeps her on newspaper and its perfectly fine.

Hi all, Thank you for the responses. I may have not worded my original post properly.
I do understand thier husbandry needs...Etc..
I was just looking to possibly make a "showcase" type cage to have in the living room.
I was inquireing to see how any other owners have housed in a "natural" looking enclosure.

then go with tiffanys design bedding and branches and leaves and stuff it would look pretty cool

My female Dum is about a year old now. She's in a 40 gallon breeder and I'd imagine she'll be pretty content in there for a while. She'll likely just get upgraded to a vision eventually.
