Hot house and no AC?
Ok, so some of you may know about the heat wave going on right now in the pacific NW...if you're there I've got a tip.
it is now over 100 (conservative judgment from yahoo) and about 5 degrees hotter in my place (direct sunlight, heat saving windows, lack of window screens, flat tar roof).
so, I thought to myself, wtf can cool down the closet with my animals in it before it before it gets too hot (about 2 hours ago).
here's what you need:
1 large bucket or trash can
1 bag of ice
1 can of salt
1 electric fan of some sort
just fill that bucket with the ice then top it off with water. dump a load of salt in there (salt melts the ice, but lowers the temperature immensely). place the bucket inside of the closet with the fan behind it. just turn the fan on and close the door a bit (leave enough for air flow but closed enough to trap the coolness). after about 10-20 minutes the room will be about 20 degrees cooler (guessing, friend has my thermometer for his own tests atm lol).
so yeah, save your animals if you don't have AC. I'm gonna go take a nap in that closet now.

Do you have a basement? Mine is usually 10-15 degrees cooler than the rest of my house naturally.

Re: Hot house and no AC?
negative. no basement. I just got done putting white sheets over all the blinds to block a lot of the light. got a bigger bucket and more ice. I have a towel around my neck right now that I dunked in water and froze. this is seriously the most intense heat I've felt in washington...and it's extremely humid too...lol.
dripping sweat doesn't even describe what's going on right now...I'm closer to melting and almost hit the point where sweat doesn't want to come out anymore hahahaha....this is no laughing matter, people die in this kind of heat. ahhhh. well, I'm doing what I can...landlord is definitely hearing from me tomorrow morning.

Get a 55 gallon trash can to fill with cold water, then just chill in it. Redneck swimming pool. :P

take it...TAKE IT ALL!!!
the breeze outside feels amazing right now. after a whole day being a reverse eskimo, I'm glad it's over.
I'm putting all these buckets back...but will have them handy for tomorrow's 95ish temps. not quite as bad though....
