    Mother Hen syndrome...???? Questions.
    Re: And She is Here!!!!!

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok so she has been home for a few days now... She is the most timid little creature I have ever seen.... She is very very head shy and really hesitant about every thing..... She is a cutie pie though and appears to be settling in.... Now I am going to do the worried mother syndrome....Now I have Rios who is a few months older then her and come to find out is about double her size... He is an avid eater... Hit the mouse the first day I brought him home from Petco, and since then has shied up a bit and now I just leave the F/T mouse in the tank and in the morning it is gone.... Well yesterday, I attempted to feed the little girl since from the breeders calculations puts her at about 9 days with out eating....She looked really interested in the FT mouse but shied from hitting... So tonight I am trying to just lay it in the tank and see if she will eat it that way.... Now I know that since she was hatched last month she has eaten five times.... Four live rat pups and the last feeding was a ft mouse..... Any sujjestions with her and getting her to eat... I really do not want to feed live if I can at all help it... And how big is a rat pup compared to an adult mouse? Shoudl I try hoppers with her? Would an adult mouse be too big at only a month old? I thought I knew what i was doing since I have had Rios for a few months, but he was already a few months old and use to eating FT hoppers that Petco would feed him........ She is just so small that I do not want her to go too long with out eating.

A rat pup is about the same size (maybe a few grams larger) than an adult mouse. A snake that has taken 5 meals should have no problem with an adult mouse.

Just leave the F/T mouse in the cage overnight. Toss it in as late as you can at night. I usually wait until past 12am to feed my snakes.

Don't start panicking just yet. You have only tried to feed her once. She is probably still a little bit scared from the journey to your place and is probably still adjusting to her new home. I would wait 5 days before offering her food again. Then she should be pretty hungry!

Thanks.... The trip home was pertty easy since we went and picked her up... the car ride was only about two hours and she was covered the whole time.... and the five meals only one of them was FT the others were live.... so I worry that she will not want to take FT ...... Ok yeah, just a bit of a mother hen on this one....and yeah... I am going to wait for a few more days before I try again./
