Female Now or November?

I am planning on breeding a female or two to my only male this fall. There is going to be a big show in Novmeber. I dont know of it would be cheaper to buy a smaller female now (around 1000 g) and try to get her up to weight by the breeding season, or buy a big ready to breed female at the show.

get a big female now so you can quarantine(if you have other reptiles) and give her many months to acclimate from a move before attempting to breed.

How much weight could i expect to add on to her before breeding season?

It varies for different snakes. I say jut get as big a female as you can find!

Say I went on a weekly feeding schedule, could a 1000 gram female be up to weight by nomvember?

under normal feeding circumstaces, i would say yes, quite easily.

Also be prepared that she may NOT breed either. Some females acclimate well, others can take up to a full year to acclimate before they are receptive to breeding. You do need to take into account 60 days of quarantine or longer before introducing your male to her.

Not sure if its just my luck but it seems as though anything you hope to happen will do opposite, so expect a thousand gram girl to not eat cuz u really want to her to make it to weight, and expect that your big girl wont go cuz she isn't acclimated to her new enviroment. And if by chance everything works out for you then its all a bonus... and if it doesnt you wont end up disappointed and you know there will always be next year!
