My baby RTB was not happy during feeding today

I have a baby RTB and when I was feeding him today, he was striking at me. His eyes seem to be a bit milky colored. I dont know if thats natural or if hes going through a shed but his skin looked normal to me. Do their temperaments go down a lot as they mature because I dont want him to be an adult and still be striking at me.

He is in blue meaning he is going to shed soon, as far as I know they are almost blind when their eyes are milky so He was probably smelling his meal and seeing some movement so he was striking. Most boa's are good snakes and are relatively calm so if you lucky this could be the only time he strikes at you, mine hasn't struck at me once in almost a year.

hes most likely going into a shed and dont worry about his attitude they calm down alot

nothing personal but lol... i hate when people say "relatively"
"boas stay relatively small" "ball pythons are relatively docile" its just a horrible way to gauge something. :P
I hear it alot about every reptile. They need a relatively warm enclosure. it just goes on and on!!!

relative to what!!! haha.

:P Its a good grey area word. When in doubt just go with relatively but in this case its about 95% of boas a mild tempered

lol.
how are they to ball pythons? temperament wise. cause all ive heard about boas is that they are "docile" which is also used to describe most reptiles...
would a bp be "light tempered"

With my limited experience with BP's (mainly just mine and my gf's) they are really docile, just VERY head-shy. No experience with RTBs though so cant compare, was actually thinking of getting one.

Yeah my BP is shy too. Just at first. Then shell relax after a bit. Im thinking of getting a sunglow boa as my next snake once i have the money. :)

Between future breeders and rescues, we now have 14 balls and 8 RTBs. Wrigley was pi**y and biting until after 12-18 months old. He still (being almost 5) has days when he's very grumpy. On the other hand, Petey, has only tried to bite me once in the entire 3.5 years I've owned him, and I got him as a baby from JimiSnakes. All 3 of the babies born this past Dec will bite just about anything, at any time, and will hit their tubs if I'm crouched over them tending to a neighbor. Tends to be a baby thing. As you acclimate the baby to being handled, they will be more accustomed to you and won't be as likely to nip. Some of it is baby, some of it is he can't see in blue, you're warm and he smelled food.

Pretty much almost all of the balls, tend to be headshy and timid, unless they're "hunting". I do have 2 ball pythons that would like to take a hand, and it doesn't matter when.....but they're still "fairly" young. (I think they're 3 now??? I'd have to look at their cards to remember. :oops: ) 'Tude is almost 3 and he's just plain attitude (hence the name ;) :D ) but I can handle him with impunity and w/o very much risk. Dan and Ann (full names Pi**y Dan and Pi**y Ann) are the two that will try to tag you......hungry, blue or just sitting in their tubs as you walk by.

The more you handle them, gently, but not too soon after feeding, the more he'll become used to your smell and realize you're not predator to his being "prey".

But no matter what, they all have their own personalities, just like ppl do, and they're great pets to have. They just take some addtnl care and handling.

I have a rtb and i went through something like this last month. Came back from vaca and she was hissing and striking at me. I just gave her a couple of days to calm. I also bought a hook for her wich worked well. she hasn't bit at me since. She is probley just having a bad day.
