ANYWHERE to go field herping in AZ...
As of most of you know, I live in Scottsdale. In my neighborhood, the ONLY reptiles that I see are Western Whiptails and Common House geckos. At my other house, I'd find Fence lizards (not sure if they were exactly Fence lizards but looked like it) and some other Common House geckos at my other house, and I've even found a Skink and a Burrowing Toad (I think that's what they're called..) in the ground. Other than that, that's ALL I found. When I went hiking about 3 years ago with my dad and my brother we say a Western Diamondback slithering into a bush. That's the only wild snake I've ever seen.. when I go to Payson I always look for amphibians or reptiles in my uncle's yard. All I find is Skinks, other lizards I have no clue what they are called, bull frogs, rarely any Whiptails, and that's about it. I can't catch any though.. they are too quick for me :(.. and I run FAST lol. Too many bushes there slowing me down though..

So does anyone know of any places I could find some snakes and OTHER lizards I don't see on a daily basis? I'm tired of chasing the ones I can't even catch:(

Well, when temperatures get cooler (NOT OVER 100F IM TIRED OF ITTT!!) I'll prolly go out and try to find some snakes and what not. Let's just hope any rattlesnakes don't get in my way..

    100 °F? Pftt.

When I was in Australia back in Dec. 2007, I got to experience the joys of 52-53 degree weather.

    P.S. that's in °C

Make sure you have the appropriate license if you plan on doing anything more than observing when you are herping.

Plenty of places to go no matter where you are around town, just have to think like a herp.

Flipping rocks and road cruising out in the desert at dusk seem to be the most popular methods I hear about.

Plus if you're out after dark you can bring along large black lights and search for scorps :D

Red Mountain. I ride there all the time and ALWAYS see cool stuff.

I've always wanted to take a trip there for just reptiles. I'd be happy to go with you!

Though with our age gap, I'm sure everyone would be more comfortable if we got a few more people to go.

I live out that way, so my house could even be the meeting point.
