    Other People's Opinions
These days, with all the ban-the-python legislation, I think we're all realizing how important other people's opinions can be. I'd like to hear your stories about how you changed a family member's or friend's opinion about snakes. I'll go first - there is a woman at work who has been terrified of snakes for years, and when she found out I had snakes for pets she actually said to me, "I would never have guessed you like snakes. All this time, I thought you were normal." I sat down and showed her pictures of my pretty girls, talked about their different colors and sizes, and how I take care of them. I was careful to answer her questions (and she had many) without making her feel ignorant. Just that one conversation changed everything! I'm sure she'll never own one herself, but she no longer feels that snakes are "freaky". In fact, she's pretty fascinated by them, and asks me for updates on the girls, wants to see the latest pics, etc. She even read up on the ban-the-python stuff and guess what - she's against it! So that's one more person to stand with us instead of against us!
