    New friend interesting Cal King
This guy came to me for free, my friend wanted the tank for her BP, so I got him.
He will be in QT for a while then he will be ready to find a new home.
I am unsure whether he is a male or female but is 8 yrs old, and fed about once a month.. which is BAD.

Any way I think he/she's type of cal king is a "green" or Yosemite locale phase. He is eating his first meal in this pic...

Here is a black and white pic of a cal king from a state of CA website, the snake is from the Yosemite area.

I'm guessing your friend kept him on calcisand or some other bedding with green dye. I've never seen a calking with a green belly before.

It's a coastal phase though some of the ones up in the mountains near Yosemite look like he does.

    They're neat snakes.

I am curious as to the color change from one photo to the other. And not just lighting. In the first/normal pic there is no green on the sides but in the questionable pic its green coloration bleeds a 3rd way up the animals sides?? Not to mention in the first pic just to the left of the coil you can see her yellow/white scutes clearly. And clean the water bowl.

Not a pic of mine, I found it on the internet as my hubby said when I showed him this new snake... he said it had a greenish tinge to its underside...
Doing a google search I found that pic...of a "green phase cal king".

Ahhhhh, I didn't think the first two were the same snake but, I wasn't positive. I knew the third was not the one you were talking about.

There are NO green phase calkings. There are some clever people out there using photoshop and some beddings that will actually dye your reptile, which is what I think happened to that second picture.

Ahh now it makes sense. I disagree with Wes on this one I think that second pic is just someones PS experiment. All the colors in the photo are screwed up.

He/She is a beautiful snake, and I do love King snakes. He seems kinda.. small.. to be 8 years old. But I guess I can see why if he was fed monthly. If your friend is getting a BP, make sure your friend has done a lot of research and has the proper husbandry for a BP because that would be heart breaking if something did happen. Well, good luck with the Cali King, they are great snakes!:gj:
