Re: Preserving Egg Shells?
I just wash them out and blow into them to puff them up a bit and let them dry. They get kind of brittle, but usable for educational shows. Use ones that pipped on their own instead of being cut, it makes a better display. That way when you explain to your audience how the baby snake cuts it's way out of the shell with it's egg tooth, you won't have people asking if all the babies make those big triangular holes in their eggs. :D
Re: Preserving Egg Shells?
Yeah, if you take them out of the incubator as soon as the baby is out, and rinse them out really well, they're pretty tough--then you just set them somewhere to dry, and they will shrink a bit, and turn really tough and a bit brittle.
Re: Preserving Egg Shells?
I still have my first ball pythons egg that the breeder sent with him. I think he did the same thing, just rinsed out and let dry. It's a little wrinkled and brittle but still around without getting gross. :)
Re: Preserving Egg Shells?
Also, once they dry out completely you can use matte finish spray varnish (clear) to spray them.
Re: Preserving Egg Shells?
I sent this same question To da museum. i rinse the egg out in warm water til everythin is clean out... then i stuff it wit cotton so it can keep its shape. place bak into da incubatr for a couple of hours. now u have a nice shape dry egg.
