Humidity Concerns

Hi Everyone,

I need some clarification on Humidity. During the winter months I have no problem keeping my enclosure at 55% Humidity but with summer here now, it tends to fluctuate between 55% and 67% - at what point is this dangerous for my snake??

My enclosure is not wet or soggy by no means - actually it is dry to the touch but the humidity in the air of the cage has reached 67% lately during the hot/humid summer weather.

I have spoken with big breeders who have told me not to even worry about the humidity but then others will say that you "must" keep it at 55% - I just don't know what to believe.

I guess my main question is - at what percentage is my snake in danger of getting sick from the humidity - is an occassional 67% okay???

Im going to go with yes, it's ok. Im not an expert, but I have had instances where my humidity has spiked to 65 due to a little water spilled when putting the tubs back in the rack or just my snakes spilling a little water in general. Theyre fine so far, and have been. Besides, most people will advise you to bump humidity to 65-70 for shed cycles, and those last 7-14 days (my personal records, dated from notice of pink belly to shed). Ill say youre safe, as long as your enclosure isnt soggy or anything.

Great - thanks for your input. My enclosure is totally dry to the touch - the humidity is strictly in the air. I use Uline Indented Craft Paper for bedding so everything stays nice and dry.

Then yeah I think you should be fine. I also think a second opinion is necessary, and someone who has been in the hobby longer than I have is going to weigh in on this topic for you as soon as everyone is up and about lol.

What do you use for heat?
If you're worried about the humidity spikes, you could turn on a heat lamp when the humidity goes up and then turn it back off once it is in acceptable levels.

Running a small fan in the room of the enclosure should help bring down your humidity a bit.

My snake is housed in an RBI cage with an RHP for heat.

I will see about adding a fan to that room to help out.
