    Whistling while breathing...
Konjou, my normal 07 has been giving me fits with not eating since September. Today I took him out for some holding time and to give him a car ride to maybe stimulate his desire to feed. I had him draped over my neck for a while and I noticed that he was whistling a little when he breathes...

Could this be RI? Could it be some shed skin in his nose? He shows no other symptoms of being ill or anything (besides not eating in forever).

I plan to call the rep vet I could find in my area tomorrow to make an appointment.

What do you guys think? I haven't noticed my other 2 bps making this noise ever.

Now I wonder if he has BEEN sick and I didn't hear it?

There's a possibility. Before taking it to a vet, just in case the snake doesn't have RI, check the mouth and throat for any bubbles. Sometimes when you are checking the mouth a little bit of saliva bubbles will come up but that's all.

I didn't see anything weird when I peeked in his mouth earlier, but I think I will go look again!

Well, he really didn't want me to look again... how do you guys get your bps to let you open their mouths!

Anyway, he wasn't making the whistles any more. Could it be that he was just a bit stressed from me holding him? Or maybe that our house is kind of cool outside the snake room? I'm baffled!

For sure no bubbles, I do know to watch for that sort of thing from keeping cornsnakes for so long.

I've only been keeping balls for a couple years so I still get weirded out when I come across something new!

There's definitely a possibility that he's perfectly fine. My mojave (who is completely healthy) always lets out a lot of air when I first go to grab him. There was one time where I was also very worried about a possible RI because once he let out a bunch of air, it sounded like a continual whistle.

Kuddos to you for being attentive!

    Thanks. :D

Well... it's not like the huff/hiss that an irate bp will do. My pin does that a lot. This is more like a nose whistle as he breathes in and out.

He has stopped doing this now that I have put him back in his tub. I have checked a couple times now. I will keep an eye on him and if I hear him doing it again I'll be calling the vet.

Probably just some stuck shed in the nose or a sudden exhalation. Keep an eye on it. If you notice drooling or more noises, maybe a vet visit is in your future.

Sorry this just stuck out to me: You took your snake in the car to "stimulate his desire to feed" why?
