About feeding 2 mouses
Okay so I'm hearing a lot about people on this site feeding two mice at the same time...I'm just curious (in case in the future, my bp decides not to eat rats) how do you guys go about it? Do you tie the tales together :siamesetw, have the mice hug each other:carouse:, have the mice draw straws to see who goes first? Or does your snake just eats one after the other? :mouse2::mouse2:
Thanks!:imslow:

Re: About feeding 2 mouses
I feed a few of my snakes two mice, but not at once. When I thaw them out, I always take the one out to feed a certain snake, so the other mouse that's thawing does not get cold by the time my snake is done with the first one. I feed both of my BPs, Monty and Candice, two mice and I also feed my Corn and one of my King snakes two mice. If you wanted to feed your snake two, here is how I do it:
Thaw out all f/t mice until they are warm. Take one mouse out of the warm water, dry it off a bit with a paper towel, and offer to snake. I also will take out more than one mouse, but that's because I feed the other mice to each snake. I wait until one of the snakes are done, then I take out another mouse that's thawed out, dry it off a bit, then offer to the snake.
That's how I do it, just so the second mouse doesn't get cold by the time one of the snakes are finished with the first one I offered.

Delilah gets 2 (live) mice, since she hates rats. We just throw in whichever one I catch first, and wait for her to eat it... then we give her a few minutes to settle, and throw in the second. She usually takes the second one really quickly, or not at all - if it's still there in 10 minutes, chances are she's full. This is just my technique, but works okay so far!

Re: About feeding 2 mouses
I have a 3 to 4mo. old BP. Since I have had him, I have been feeding one prey item per feeding. Should I be feeding two mice? The last thing he ate was a large adult mouse. Should I offer him two hopper's instead?

No no no...large adult mouse is ok, my point was, that there would be a point that they will need to eat something larger than an adult mouse like a small or medium rat, and some snakes reject rats...so some people here tend to feed them two mices, I just wanted to know how they go about it...

When one mouse is too small, try rats, and if they would rather have a mouse, feed two. The most important thing is to make sure your snake has time to readjust his jaw. Otherwise he could have a bad strike.
Make sure you are weighing snake, and prey. In my opinion over feeding is worse than underfeeding.

Is there like a ratio for snake to mouse for the weighting? Or basically you got to eye and compare mouse to snake?

Yeah the mouse should be the same size as the thickest part of the snake...
You can also buy a scale, its a lot easier than the naked eye (due to human error)...you should feed your snake 10% of its weight...so for example if your snake weighs in 170 grams, you should find a 17 gram mouse for your snake...
Hope that helps...
