I've been thinking about picking up a wacom tablet. Does anyone have one? And which do you prefer, why, etc....
Thanks!!

Any. They are all good but you will want to go with the biggest one your budget allows. I absolutely LOVE them and when paired with photoshop and/or a Tablet PC its like having your own digital canvas. It really eliminates the need for paper and pencil and a scanner.

Re: Wacom tablets?
Well, my budget directly depends on what I'm looking at buying I guess. Bamboo? Cheaper, but doesn't seem exactly like the right pad (?), and not for real working/drawing/painting based things.
The Intuos line, is this what I should be looking at, or am I missing another line of products?
Thanks for the help everyone.

Wacoms are excellent. I have a wacom graphire and I'm pleased with it. I'm biased though. It's my first tablet and it has served me pretty well.

Re: Wacom tablets?
I just purchased an Intuos 4, upgrading from an Intuos 2. I think it's a hugh upgrade from old versions. The programable buttons are great.
I teach illustration at a community college and all my students love them. If you going to purchase, skip the Bamboo & Graphire. If your doing any type of art make sure you get at least 6x9 size.

Re: Wacom tablets?
Thanks. I was looking at the medium Intuos4 here. Not exactly 6x9, but I think it would work for my small applications, which is normally simple drawing... I think. LOL, first time buying a tablet. I have tried the bamboo, and I really didnt like it. It was small, so it might be worth going for the large sized Intuos4.

Re: Wacom tablets?
That's what I have the medium. I think the old version 2 was 6x9 and now it's called medium.
I prefer not moving my hand too much...so when I got my 12x9, I ended up configuring the "work area" down to like a 5x5 square...so i had a lot of wasted space. If I buy another - I would go with the 6x8.
edit: That was the intuos 3 dimensions. I would go with the Intuos 4 Medium

Re: Wacom tablets?
if you plan on doing digital illustrations, I'd go with as large as you can afford. I used to have a smaller Graphire that had about a 4"x6" (dimensions probably off) drawing surface and it worked perfectly fine for the photomanipulations I used to do. I wasn't professional or anything, but I found them perfectly fine. If you have the money, I'd suggest getting a smaller tablet to see if you even like using it. I know people that have bought larger ones and never picked it up.
hope you have fun with whichever you choose though :)
(I'm gonna have to get a new tablet myself...mmmmmm)
