    Thermostat Setup
When I read about the setup process that people on this forum post for thermostats, I read that most people put the temp probes on the outside of the enclosure.

    Why is this?

Wouldn't it work better if the temp probes were inside the enclosure so the thermostat can show what the real temp of the enclosure is?

I have a Herpstat 2 on its way to me now and I need to know how it should be set up and would like to know why it is set like this.

I tape the probe directly on the heat tape outside of the enclosure or tub, and then use two seperate temp guages to monitor the temp inside the tub. One cool side and one over the heat source. If you put the probe inside the enclosure it'll end up getting knocked around. If your snake pushes it to the cool end, it'll over heat the heat tape because the probe will be reading cool while the heat tape over heats. And don't use tape to secure a probe inside an enclosure.

Use a few Accurites to monitor the temp and use your Herpstat to regulate the temp.

I appreciate the answer. That really does make sense. If the probe got moved, it could kill the snake.

I'm glad all these things have been thought of and there is a rhyme and reason for everything.
