What is the youngest you'd breed a male ball?
If a male ball is up to breeding weight, what is the earliest you'd breed.

In your experience, how long does it usually take for a male to attain a weight of 800g?

    Just want your opinions. :)

I wait around a year to breed a male and around then my males are usually around 800-1000 grams. I only feed once a week and only the proper sized food. you can see the rest of my guidelines for breeding in the other post about females size.

Thanks! In your experience, are males usually up to weight by a year of age, or does it usually take longer?

A year and a half on some of my males when they stop eating for winter, and that can set things back when they dont eat for 6+months. I just had a male eat about a week ago and he hasnt taken one rat since november.

I voted under 6 months. If the male has decent pene developement, looks healthy and is producing sperm, then give him a shot. I wouldn't ever put a young/small male on too many females, as he just deosn't have the strength to be stretched too thin.

As far as the 800 gram question goes, I have a couple of proven breeder males that are from 3-5 years old that have never been 800 grams. Some of them just don't get that big.

We voted under 6 months. We had a Bee breed at 370 grams this year and both females be bred with have ovulated.

So if I were to pick up an early 09 male, he'd have a chance at breeding next season?

Weight is more important than age, as well as pene development like Tim said. As long as they are producing Sperm and have enough weight go ahead and try them.

I'd say a year, as long as it gets to the correct weight in order to successfully breed with the female.
