Mold around edge of window egg
Like the title says, one of my clutches has two window eggs. A thin line of mold has developed around the outside of the window. These eggs are at day 40 so I'll be cutting within 2 weeks. Any thoughts? I am inclined to leave them alone at this point. The mold isn't spreading or getting worse. Pictures coming when the camera recharges.

If not on the eggs then theres no worry. You can just wipe it away to prolong the growth

The mold is one the eggs dude.

Obviously I dont have much experience with clutches. But with only 2 weeks to go would it really be a problem to just wipe off?

Thanks bro. The previous post is why I was waiting for one of my experienced breeder friends to chime in. I probably could wipe it off and may but I'm not sure. I've never even gotten a mold spot on a good egg. Appreciate the input bro!

Get two q-tips, take all the cotton on both sides off one; then put the cotton on the tip of the other one (you can use tape around the base to keep it in place). That is if the window is really fragile, if it seems to be a bit more stable you can wipe it off with tp or paper towels. Luckily it didn't happen two weeks into waiting :please: Hope that helps, can't wait to see your clutch!

While I don't have a ton of experience with eggs yet, I've been having the same problem with our first clutch this year. Pretty much the whole bottom half of one of the eggs is the reddish/yellow slug color, while the rest of the egg is healthy. That bottom half has been growing mold pretty quickly, right from the first week in the incubator. I've been scraping the mold off with the edge of a piece of paper every few days and just last week ended up picking up some of the anti-fungal powder spray that someone else had recomended. Gave the bottom of that egg a good coating and it has really slowed the mold down from growing back.

Hey Jamie - haven't had to deal with that myself yet, but I believe that I recall that others have recommended wiping it away and treating it with some sort of anti-fungal spray (sparingly).

If it's not spreading, I don't know that I'd be inclined to do anything at this point.

This close to hatching I would leave it alone...

Thanks all! I think I would rather leave it alone at this point. It isn't spreading and the egg is viable. I'll be cutting within 10-14 days anyway :)

I wipe it off the egg and apply a little anti-fungal foot powder to the area where the mold was growing. I have saved a few eggs with this technique.
