General Rosy Boa Questions

I'm currently doing some research and trying to choose a first snake. I've been able to find quite a few caresheets on Rosy Boas, and from what I've seen they look like they might be good (small, docile, pretty), but I've had trouble finding more detailed information about what they are like as pets, I was hoping people here might be able to fill in some details for me.

Are they generally amenable to handling?

What are they like personality-wise, I've heard they are 'docile', but are they shy, or curious, mischevious, etc.

How easy are they to look after properly once you've got them set up (ei, set up the cage, made sure all the husbandry is right)?

How easy is it to find a rosy breeder, and how much do they generally cost (specifically the very white ones with red/pinkish stripes)?

Also, what subspecies has that colouration, so far all I've got is a bunch of conflicting information.

Hello! Rosies are indeed very docile and make great starter snakes. Personalities will vary from animal to animal, mine is very curious and sociable. They are easy to maintain since they don't need humidity other than a water dish, being desert snakes. As far as availability and price, you should be able to find one for $70 or less depending on age and locality. Sorry but I don't know which one is white/red/pinkish. The Plomosa is a good looking one in my opinion, but of course I'm partial to the AZ Desert ;)

Strangely enough, I'm also in Mesa AZ and also have a Rosy.

He was a huge jerk for the first 6 months of his life. Since, he's been an angel. Love him.

They are very sweet. Captive bred may be more docile and less likely to have parasites, etc. We just got our second and he's a DOLL.
