So I REALLY want a Bp... there's just a couple problems...
So I'm 16 and I live with my mom. lol. Sorry that just sounded funny. Anyway. I already have a corn snake, 2 cats and a couple mice (guess why), and technically we're paying an extra 25 bucks a month for 1 cat. So you see my problem. Would it be a bad idea to persuade my mom into letting me get a bp? Housing and whatnot is not a problem, I just don't know what my mom would think, and I'm not sure how much of a bad idea sneaking in another animal is..
Should I try anyway?
If so, how should I approach the issue?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Well i got my first ball python when i turned 16. I got him from a guy on craigslist that didn't want him so i gave him 30 bucks for her. What i did was get the snake and tell her when i got it lol. She didn't mind as much as i thought she would and she doesn't like them.. so if your mom knows u have a corn.. just go for the bp. the worst she can say is no.

First of all I'd say respect your moms wishes as weak as it may sound she both needs and deserves to have her rules respected. Sneaking it in is going to get a far worse reaction than asking her ever would.
Second even if she says no just remember, it only means you'll have to wait till your out on your own to get one. I'm sure they'll still be around by then so no rush.

Well I didn't mean sneaking it behind my moms back. I meant sneaking it into the house because I don't wanna pay another 25 bucks a month for a snake.

I am dieing to ask, why would having another animal cause you to pay 25.00 a month, and who would you pay it to?
Re: So I REALLY want a Bp... there's just a couple problems...
In my lease, we have to pay 25 bucks a month extra per pet. We only claimed that we had one cat. So we pay the land lord.

Sorry I guess I didn't explain very well. We're renting a house lol.

Here's the rub. If your landlord finds out you could be fined or evicted. Any time you violate the terms of a lease you run the risk of coming out on the short end of the stick.

You're already 16, why not wait a couple more years until you're in a place of your own? Thats what I had to do....my parents would not of approved of snakes in the house. If you wait a little bit, you might be more financially secure in the future and more likely to get a morph you like.
...and my bp is probably as much fun to watch as a pet rock :P

Some landlords charge extra if you want to have a pet in the house. Most of them require a pet deposit in case there is any damage to the property caused by the animal (chewing/clawing on door frames, urine on the carpet, etc). The $25/month extra in rent is a bit over the top, but not unheard of. Most landlords with a pet fee won't make a fuss over a reptile or a fish, something that generally stays in its habitat and doesn't pose a cosmetic risk to the home. After I left my husband I looked around for apartments that would allow me to keep at least a couple of my previous collection, and ran into several that had pet fees for cats and dogs. One was a real PITA because the landlord didn't allow reptiles in the building at all because "they scare people" and she didn't want to have to deal with the drama caused by people being upset over what lived in MY apartment that they'd never set foot in.
To the OP, just talk to your mom. If she says no, oh well, you'll be an adult in two years and you can get a snake then, granted that you've moved out by that time. :gj:
