    Retic questions: ;)
    Hi guys,

    Bought a very attractive male retic hatchling from a local breeder here. He doesn't have his probing kit available at that time and he popped the retic in question and confirmed it's a male. He did offer anyway to replace if my hatchling turned out to be a female and if it had any health problems.

    1) Basically, how reliable is "popping"? Since it's a hatchling, I had a hard time trying to look for the signature spurs/claws at the base of the tail; although the high orange color of the hatchling (especially on the sides) is very promising. ;)

    2) i'll post pics soon; but given my earlier descriptions, is it possible I got a sunfire? I tried reading/looking up pics at the net but so far, I still find it hard to differentiate them from nice looking normals. Don't worry...I bought him at a "normal" price but his high orange contrast looks....quite unique ;)

    Thanks

    1.) If it pops a male, it is a male. There is no mistaking it. Only time I second guess popping is when it's a female. Then I will check again by using a probe.

    2.) Ask the breeder what the parents were about if it's a Sunfire or not. By the look of your avatar, I'd say no.

    ei guys

    Thanks for the responses

    @ben

    i promise to put up a pic bet friday - sun; giving time for the hatchling to acclimate AND i'm babysitting for my sister.

    @ajballs:

    hmm....that's comforting to know about the popping part (im just really concerned that i couldn't see the spurs....maybe it's coz he's a hatchling and all and it's still small). And the retic in my avatar is not the hatchling :D

    Here's the pic of the father (whom I know is far from being a sunfire) tho:

    Here's the mom (can't see very well tho...all coiled up).

    Hatch date: 06/18

    Thanks

    You're always getting the crazy looking retics out in the Philippines! That male has an insanely nice stripe.

    hmmm....to be honest...this is the first time i got a retic hatchling (started either with juvies/sub adults). Will it be really hard for me to locate the spurs if he's roughly 2-3 weeks old?

    @Ajballs:

    When I first saw the father, I had the exact thing in mind; that's why I bought a baby; also want to experience raising one from hatchling age :D. Hopefully, I could breed him with my 2 females. When I get home from babysitting duties, I'll try to get pics :D

    PS: hope he's really a male....already gave him a kickass name...Bumblebee :D
