I picked up Maria Thursday from another member of my herp club in the Seattle area. And here I thought I was done collecting herps for a while... That was 3 or 4 herps ago...
Maria is a very cool adult Mexican Boa. She's possibly a Tarahumara (probably not, but that is how she was advertised to previous owner). She's about 5ft long. About as long as my dumerils boa female, but nearly twice as thick.
I emailed this guy (http://www.riobravoreptiles.com/boas_mexico.htm) based on some recommendations, and he thinks she is a standard Mexican Boa and probably not a Tarahumara. She's big for a tarahumara and there just aren't that many around. I guess the only way to be sure is if I knew who the breeder was since that is only a few guys in the US.
She's settling into her new home. But I'll need to upgrade soon. It is only a 40 gal breeder tank....
I'll get some pics of her when I feel she is settled in a little. Her markings are great. Not the typical 'redtail' for sure.
She comes with a years supply of rats, so the rabbits are safe for a while
Maria wasn't too keen on going outside today and let me know very vocally. Even hissing at me as I snapped pics. But she never did strike, just complained...
