those are cool! how much time underwater does the trunk snake spend? when he goes up to the surface, i'm assuming he's sticking just his nose out far enough to get more air?

Cool videos....enjoyed that elephant trunk snake. Is it really a snake, or an amphibian? It sort of reminds me of a hagfish or something....

    Sweet vids, :)

Does the elephant trunk snake ever eat any of the cage mates or only the food presented to him?

I too am fascinated by the elephant trunk snake. I am not a big fish guy, but love aquariums. I know, that seems odd. I have always wanted a mata-mata. Do you have care info the the elephant trunk snake? What are your personal thoughts/experience working with them?

    Cool vids! :)

The javanicus spends all of his time in the water, in fact it would be extremely rare for him to come out of it. He sticks his nostrils out of the water to take a breath and then he's good for like 5 or 10 minutes!

He will eat the fish on his own and that is what they are there for, at least, he is supposed to. As far as I know though, he has only taken them off the tongs. Which is actually good for me, because I plan to eventually only feed him from tongs!
