I love my male pastel too. He is so lovable. I open the cage, and he crawls right onto my hand. My female normal is a different story. She runs from me, and I have been tagged once. It's better not to go directly at them when you pick them up. As I have learned.
Maybe its a sex trait thing?

I think so! I have to admit we have a male Black Pastel that's not the sweetest thing on earth, but he's mostly a shy boy I think. Several of our girls are moody!

I was thinking that too (about males vs females). My normal Delilah hisses about 1/4 of the times I pick her up, although luckily she never strikes, and mellows out quickly. My other female is pretty friendly, but not nearly as nice as Toby - who will crawl towards me no matter where I place him, and gives little "kisses" to anyone who offers. :)
I don't know if there's truth in all of this, but my experiences do show males to be more affectionate. Same goes for cats, which I've owned for most of my life... the boys are typically more outgoing and cuddly, while the females have a tendency to be independent and cranky. I love them all, though! And as a woman myself, I can relate to the moodiness... LOL.
