I personally have never seen this question asked before.
Are you looking to do it yourself? I considered it, but as I only have one bp, the cost and space requirements weren't worth it.

At 10 balls i decided to breed my own rats. But i also have several red tailed boas.
I breed african soft furred rats. I have 2 breeding quads and its working out ok. I do have to supplement frozen every now and then but not very often.
My redtailed get the frozen rats. They will eat rocks if i put fuf on them.

I have 4 bp (age 10,3,3,and a yearling) and a yearling crb.I have 3 ten g tanks with 1.3 ratio and when the afs are producing I have enough but if some canibalism occurs I have to buy.I have 2 more baby bp comming and went to a 1.4 to see if I will get enough. average litter for me is 11.It seems the afs take longer to getto adult size so there is times that I have to feed 2 per snake. The snakes are fed every 7-10 days except for the yearlings they eat every 5 days

We have 16 Ball Pythons, a Jungle Carpet Python, and a Brazilian Rainbow Boa- we're about ready to start breeding our own!

I started breeding rodents before I started buying snakes to breed. I packed away all of them in the freezer and used those when times were a bit slim for fresh feeders. Any extra you can always sell off. I try and keep at least one producing female rodent per snake and it's evened out pretty well.

As to what point it's most cost effective to breed your own versus buying frozen I couldn't tell you.

My suggestion is start breeding when the cost of buying them is more than the cost of Breeding them.

If your paying 5.00 a week to feed your snakes no need to breed. If your paying 150.00 a week then yep time to breed your own in my mind.
