New Reptile Basics cage & plastic smell....
I just received a Reptile Basics 3x2x1 and inside it has a pretty strong plastic-y odor. I've wiped the cage down, and it doesn't go away.

Is it safe to put my snake in? The cage looks great, and I'm totally happy with the whole transaction, but I'm just worried since the ventilation is much less than my glass 40 breeder.

I doubt RBI would sell a reptile cage that isn't safe to put a reptile into.

You could leave it outside in a well ventilated area for a day to see if it helps.

When I bought my boaphiles, they also smelled strongly of plastic/glue... This smell will disapate within a few days... just let it sit and work on getting your temps right over the next couple of days while you wait.

    Good luck!

I had the same issue with my RBI cage. It eventually dissipates after a day or so, and that gives you plenty of time to get the cage set up and the temps right. :)

Use Dawn (the original blue stuff, nothing else) soap and some warm water. All plastic should be washed not just let to air out. 99.9% of plastics from the factory come with a film that needs to be washed off.

Just a hint with the RBI rack if it's your first rack system....leave it running for a day or two before putting your snakes in. Your temps and humidity won't be steady right away. I know when I set mine up the humidity looked normal after one night, then went up to like 90%. I just had to add more holes, now it's perfect. I'm completely satisfied with mine.
