Most of the staff at big chain stores are given just enough info to sell you something and that's it.. trust them for an accurate price or available stock but not your petcare.

Reapply again in 6 months and don't tell them you have reptile experience. They'll probably hire you. All of our pet stores here are the same way. They'll hire the dumb teenagers over someone with experience. I was shocked when my fave store actually hired a somewhat experienced snake keeper to work in their reptile department.

Last year's teens were horrible. They wouldn't separate snakes to feed them, they'd just dump prey into the tanks and let them feed. They had a pair of baby garters get stuck together while eating the same cricket (one swallowing the other). And I'll never forget the way that poor ATB looked after they fed him too large of prey. His back end swelled up from the lack of blood flow and he wound up dying. =( They've got a new manager and employees this year and doing MUCH better.

I won't even get started on the animal torture facility/pet store down the road from them. *shudders*

They will do about anything for a sale, didn't your friend think of the strange price for a cinny, or even the store for that? I hate when people do crap like that, I would go choke the person.

i work at petco, and i can agree with a lot of stores with innacurate employees and people that pull stuff from (you know where) just so it sounds good....i am proud to say i am not one of those people...its hard to find good people at petco's/petsmarts because it is a generic job that has no requirements for hire really...i try not to fit into these bad catagories like you guys described...i always try to gain some sort of knowledge out of every shift, or help out in someway...im sorry that a lot of you guys on here had have bad experiences with these stores....completely understandable though haha

It's because petco/petsmart is a corporation. You have experience means you normally cost more, over somebody who has no experience, and can be told whatever. Everybody has to remember, it's a business for big stores like that.
